Lehigh Valley Excursion

Posted 12-22-2011 at 05:28 AM by Cookie (Timely Treasures)

Sept 2007

Lehigh Valley PA excursion. While the weather is favorable, I'm scouting by 'area blocks' for future homesites. This Lehigh trip was to include visits to Nazareth, Bethlehem, a couple of towns surrounding Bethlehem, and ending in Quakertown for the giant flea market that's always advertised.

The route I planned was to cross the Delaware at the Portland bridge, take the 611 service route to my 1st stop Nazareth. I missed the service route, and ended up going...

HW Longfellow

Posted 12-18-2011 at 06:50 AM by Cookie (Timely Treasures)

I heard the bells on Christmas Day
Their old, familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet the words repeat
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!

Gettysburg

Posted 12-18-2011 at 06:29 AM by Cookie (Timely Treasures)

July 2007

This past week I went down to Gettysburg to pick up my son from soccer camp. The entire freshman, Jr. Varsity, and Varsity team members go as a team and they participate in playoff games against teams from the surrounding states. The camp coaches are terrific and the boys come back playing at a higher level so it is worth it for them to go.

While I was down there, I visited the battleground and a few of the tourist stops in the area. It's much different than...

Quit Smoking - For Mature Adults

Posted 11-10-2011 at 09:49 AM by kind2creatures (NatMedTalk and Beyond)

It's a fact that we usually take our health for granted until we lose it. I'm writing this for mature adults, many of whom had started smoking cigarettes in their teens or twenties, and have continued to do so on a daily basis for their entire adult lives. I gave up smoking on my own around thirty years ago after smoking over a pack of Marlboros a day for around fifteen years. I can honestly say that it was the smartest move I've ever made, and have never regretted it.

Years ago, smoking...

On Religion

Posted 10-26-2011 at 10:27 AM by Arrowwind09

Well, I am not a religious person, yet I consider myself deeply spiritual. They are not the same thing and are not related, yet they can co-exist.

Spiritual feelings and experience is common to all of humanity. Too often those who are raised in religious dogma come to think that their spiritual feelings are a result of religion and religious dogma and falsely believe that they have a corner on spiritual experience that no other can have. This is a blatant lie. Spiritual feelings and...

Halloween Candy - Keep It For The Kids

Posted 10-12-2011 at 09:38 AM by kind2creatures (NatMedTalk and Beyond)

Ideally, we would all give out healthy treats for the trick or treaters each year like fresh fruits, natural fruit 'leathers', natural licorice or small toys, tattoos, etc.

Realistically, kids like to get candy for Halloween. Since it's mainly women who buy, store and hand out all those 'fun sized' chocolate bars, they often fall into the sinkhole of overindulgence. Yes, I've been guilty of it too, although I have much more control than I did years ago.

Many gals who...
