Default Intermittent Heart Pains....

Since yesterday and today, I start to feel a very minor but noticeable heart/chest pain that lasts for on and off for a few minutes.

It's very random and I'm not sure if its just my body adjusting to this diet or something more serious.

You could say I'm about 4 days in now...but I may have not followed the first 4 days to the strictest of rules.

I am also only 20.

Is it directly in your heart? (the pain that is) or do you feel it closer to your ribs? Does it go away or hurt more when you stretch your chest a bit at all? (I am just asking to see if it is what I am thinking of)

None of us are Dr's (that I know of) but some possibilities for your pain could be.

Heart burn.. If you feel it in your chest cavity,, and possibly upwards in your throat, this could be your problem. It some times feels like a tightening with restrictions in the front of your throat. The "burn" is not always felt that way, where most people associate it with gas or indigestion..

also,,, acid reflux will mimic the above symptoms.

Muscle.. If you are doing chest exercises, it could be a pulled muscle.

Anxiety.. This will most mimic that of heart attack symptoms. If the attack is great enough, people have been known to call 911 out of fear.

Over exertion of air ways.. do you smoke? does it happen when you are exercising? this can cause the same type of pain... also similar to the anxiety feeling.. some people relate part of the symptoms of anxiety,, to that fact that they stress out and begin to hyperventilate.

All in all,, if you are worried, see your Dr.

I had the same problem on day 5 of induction.... and I totally freaked out....

I went to the doctors and she told me that i should go to the hospital.. so... again.. totally freaked...

turned out to just be my asthma but it felt really weird... but seriously..... always go get something like that checked out.. its better to turn up and be a silly fool for getting it wrong.. then to not turn up to the docs and it to end up in the worst case scenario..

Chest pain is not something we should ignore. I was 40 and had a pressure pain in my chest off and on. I'd attribute it to heartburn and take a bunch of tums and that would kinda, sorta make it go away. Whenever I exerted myself I would get totally out of breath but I was smoking 2-3 packs of kools a day. I ate whatever I wanted and I was 5'11" and weighed about 235. I could not have run 100 yards with pit bulls in pursuit.

Anyway, back from the digression......I knew I needed to get things together and saw the doc. He put me on lipitor for cholesterol reduction and gave me the usual song and dance about quitting smoking. Another month went buy and I was doing very limited exercise but had this nagging chest pressure. When i went back to the doc I mentioned the pressure. I acted like it was no big thing but he said that to be absolutely sure we needed to do a stress test.

The next day I went down to the hospital and defiantly stubbed out my cigarette at the door. This was the last cigarette I ever smoked. I checked in and got ready for the stress test which consists of monitoring your heart as you walk. I walked about 2 minutes and the doctor told me to stop and lie down. My heart had gone totally out of synch and was beating wildly.

They immediately admitted me and I ended up having baloon angioplasty and getting stents in 3 coronary ateries. they told me I came as close as you possible can to having a heart attack without ever having one.

Don't ignore chest pain.

Okay, I'm off my sopabox now.

Could be esophageal spasms , I have them a lot, especially when I first started this diet. And until I had tests run I though it was my heart too. When I have steak it really acts up. (and when I am really stressed) Though another symptom I have with it is a choking feeling. Just a thought...

Please do go to the doctor. I know it wasn't what you wanted to hear, but It is very concerning.

It could also be gas. I know that after I had my first child, the gas was incredible, especially in my upper chest. I know this is a lot of info, but I wouldn't have known what it was if I hadn't had labor. (really hard to explain) but get it checked out. May be nothing, may be something. You never know unless you go to the doc.

Doesn't happen during exercise.
I don't have Asthma

Just sometimes the way I lie down in bed.

But again everything is fine now. If it hurts again today I'll make a call, but my dr will bet upset that I'm on Atkins...

My daughter had the same random symptoms. She thought she was having heart problems. During times of this pain she would tell me about the sharp knife like pain in her chest whenever she tried breathing deeply. I recommended she see my Chiropractor. She was told a pinched nerve was the cause of the problem. She got an adjustment and has been fine for the last two years.

Could it be caused by fluid retention? If the problem is when you're resting?

I agree that you shouldn't guess about chest pains. See a dr. if they persist!

Never mess when you have any kind of pains and don't assume it will pass. Always go to the doctors.

Hope you are feeling better.

Default Check it Out

It does sound like gastritis but you should have it checked. A heart attack creates a sensation of heavy pressure on your chest. The pain can be considerable.

I had gastritis to the point that I thought I had experienced a heart attack. Try some antacids to see if that diminishes or alleviates the symptoms. The kind that you drink seems to coat and work well. Just don't take any chances.

Good Luck!
