How would this cure a cough?

Maybe it's like the same concept that if you rub garlic or soak your feet in garlic water, you'll be able to taste the garlic in 15 minutes. The pores on your feet are the largest pores on your body and absorb stuff rather quickly. But is Vicks natural?

Very strange. Sounds like those old wives tales, about rubbing Mustard in your chest, and Necklaces of Garlic for what ails you, or some such stuff.

We absorb many things through our skin, so it's quite believable that Vicks on the soles of the feet will be systemically available in a few short mminutes.
if you are brave enough, test this for yourself -
Fix a slice of garlic to the sole of a foot (sock? Band Aid?) and then notice how many minutes it takes to be able to smell the garlic on the breath. You may need the assistance of a tolerant friend for this test!

Vicks will be availabel to the whole system in the same way.
Is Vicks natural? Wikipedia thinks so, and I have used it in the past, and survived! -

• Eucalyptol 1.2% (Cough suppressant)

Inactive Ingredients

• Cedarleaf oil
• Nutmeg oil
• special Petrolatum
• Thymol
• Turpentine oil

I am just a bit curious to wonder why it is claimed as an Ayurvedic medicine? Those ingredients must have been available to many parts of the world, over the centuries, so it could as easily be claimed as a TCM medicine, or a Mexican or North American Indian remedy.
Not that it matters, but can anyone suggest the reasoning behind this?

we have done the garlic trick... Had the daughter be a guinia pig.. We cut a piece of garlic in half and had her stand on it... within seconds, she had pain in her knee (she has alot of knee problems, and was able to taste the garlic within a couple of minutes.. very fast actually.. I have heard about the vicks, I have heard of alot of people who use this method, and seem very confident that it works... I know we used vicks on dads toes when he had fungus... worked better then anything else we had tried.

One of the hemmoroid (sp) cures I tried this past spring also said for me to put some on my feet as well as on the 'issue' at hand so it would go thru my system to heal as well.
