I hadn't thought about this till this article. I think we should go for natural gas cars anyway.

I don't know about where you live.. but have you seen the prices of cars recently? My husband was showing me some advertisements.. they are asking less for some 2008 cars than I paid for the equivalent in 1998 and I got a very good deal. Like.. 1/2 price? I assume all this is because of the bailout.
but.. we need a new car. our old van is on it's last legs.. it is the little engine that just can't anymore.
But hybrid cars are much more expensive than the normal ones.
I'm talking about all the cars we were looking at seem to be on sale. Hybrids and regular (we were looking at the regular ones. Can't afford the expensive ones).
We are a big car family. 6 cars for 4 people here plus two motorcycles and one ATV.
Not a one was purchased new, and so it has been for 25 years. Why in the world anyone purchases a new care is beyond me!
But with prices as they are there may be some good deals, but even better in the used market.
Electric cars will be the nations next big fiasco. like ethanol. Where are we going to get all the electricity to charge a nation of electric cars? Already they want us to replace all our light bulbs with low watt fluroescents. sp?
I am major opposed to nuclear plants at this time. Not when they want to store all the spent nuclear waste in my state and transport it across the nation through everyone's back yard and we just cant make enough Depleated uranium weapons to spread it all over the middle east. As it is France is looking to ship their nuclear waste to Idaho for storage cause they don't want it, yet they are most satisfied to reap the electrical benefits of nuclear plants. Bet you didn't know that. The big bug a boo no one is talking about except in Idaho.
Cars should be powered by natural gas until we figure out how to do it with hydrogen/water

Electromagnet fields can do healing work just as some drugs can but to subject people to frequencies indiscriminately I do not think is this is safe..
Its been pretty well documented that people who live under high voltage power lines pay for it. We are electro dynamic beings but we have been genetically programed to live in a world where frequencies do not abound indiscriminately. When judiciously applied there may be great benefit for some.
People who are in oriental medicine have been warning for many years against the use of electric blankets and clocks placed near the place of sleep and of course we are aware of the frequencies that come from computers.
Its a lot to sort out and none of it has been to my satisfaction before I would get hot on the idea of sitting in an electrically generated car. If a shield were placed between the engine compartment or what ever perhaps.
ps. I didn't edit your post ST. I hit the edit button instead of the quote button in error. I've done that before...sloppy

Here's the article for those who can't open the link.
Health Risks of Hybrid Cars Have Been Misrepresented by the Media
A New York Times article published earlier this year raised questions about the health risks of electromagnetic fields (EMFs) in hybrid or electric vehicles.
EMFs have been linked to serious health matters, including cancer and a potential risk of leukemia among children, so limiting exposure is in your best interest.
However, a safety report by Stan Hartman, an environmental health consultant in Boulder, CO, specializing in electropollution, found that hybrid vehicles are not a problem for your health.
“There were a lot of misleading statements in the recent NY Times article, including claims of 100 mG fields, which are causing alarm,” Hartman said.
“It's next to impossible to get accurate readings in a moving vehicle. Since there was no lift available to simulate road resistance to the drive train in a constant external EMF atmosphere, the results of this testing are only approximate at best.”

There is one interesting danger. I have a Toyota Prius (50 mpg). Just after I bought it (2002), I read a story about firefighters, especially paramedics, having to learn how to deal with accidents for the Prius. At the time, there was only one other hybrid. Apparently they had to learn how to use the Jaws of Life. They could get electrocuted even if the car is not running. Of course, you can't tell if the car is still engaged; because the gas engine would be off, the electric motor could still be on.
However, a safety report by Stan Hartman, an environmental health consultant in Boulder, CO, specializing in electropollution, found that hybrid vehicles are not a problem for your health.
I would tend to agree with that, unless you happen to be run over by one.
The strength of EMF fields decreases as a function of the square of the distance as you move away from its source. ( a small change in distance makes for a large change in strength.)
I would suspect that a cell phone held next to your head would be more damaging then a hybrids motor that is some distance from you and shielded by the cars body.
