Default Anyone Been To Scotland?

While sitting on a bench at a nearby lake last year, the clouds in the water's reflection took on the shape of a castle. So naturally my imagination went into overdrive & a 'men in kilts' fantasy was born.

Actually, I'm really into castles & would love to visit at least one listed on this page; Dunvegan, Bothwell, Eilean Donan or Edinburg.

I'm saving for a trip to Scotland, but wonder if anyone has visited & if so, what's really worth the time to see?

I live here

All depends what you're looking for but if you want to see castles, we have many. Bothwell is the only one you listed I don't recall going to but could be wrong.

If you're expecting to see lots of men in kilts you could be in for a disappointment, most wear trousers here too.

Enjoy your visit.

You can get Haggis in USA, this is the best - https://www.macsween.co.uk/
needs to be eaten with mashed potatoes and swede

Fortunately we do have decent food too and don't all live on deep fried poo

Is that so? It's a gorgeous country judging by pictures I've seen

This is another link to more fabulous scottish castles.

My first, middle & last names are of celtic orgin on my father's side. His ancestors were from Scotland, then lingered in England several generations before jumping over the pond.
The village of Torwood would interest me as I would have the chance to walk in my ancestor's footsteps..

Oh no LOL I wasn't expecting to see lots of men in kilts hahaha Although, I wouldn't stop anyone from putting one on if the opportunity presented itself

I'd also like to visit Germany as my mother's side of the family is from there. Another country with stunning castles~

Would you?!! You're quite adventurous with sampling national dishes, aren't you! Especially on like haggia, although I hear it's quite tastey. I'm okay as long as I do not know the ingredients ahead of time.. You'll need to visit Scotland for the traditional real deal dish as I'm pretty sure sheep's lung is illegal in the U.S.

Got a kilt?

No kilt! Yes, I am adventurous for the most part with foods, but no way in hell would I try this phillipine thing. They take duck eggs and let them partially mature to where it is half fetal chick and half yolk. GROSS!

I know people who have been to the UK, they say it is not a good place to visit. The Scots/Brits themselves love to go abroad to escape at least for a vacation. The weather almost always sucks and it has been too capitalist for too long.

There are castles at places that actually have good weather.

I hear the same, it is quite pricey, taxis are very expensive, the food is not that great and the weather sucks. But that is London, I hear Scotland is nice.

The British Isles are so small I don't see how Scotland can have this great weather and London be dreary.

Places that have chronically gloomy weather and lack of sun, have more disconsolate, perennially unhappy populations. You can pick up that vibe quickly, the less sun people have the worse they feel over time. And like I said before the UK was the pre-eminent and first capitalist society so there is nothing of bonds of community left either. I know everytime I visit the Greek villages my family is from the elders always ask newcomers: "Who/whose are you?" and by this they mean for you to tell them your ancestry or connection to the village as they likely knew my grandparents. I doubt they will ask 50 years from now as they will have capitalized social relations enough to destroy all community.

Bonnie Scotland! If you've never been, you must go sometime. One of the most beautiful places on earth. (The Highlands especially.)

I guess it's alot like the big island Hawai'i. If you stay on the east coast in Hilo, chances are you'll be rained on whereas Kailua-Kona, on the west coast, is nice & sunny. And they're just under 100 miles and like 2 1/4 hours apart.

If I made a trip over, it would be for reasons other than to vacation. When I go on vacation, it's to relax....usually on a beach or near a lake with nice restaurants within a half hour drive
