Obama on Muslims
I had to go to the library to find this. It's the complete quote that Just Me noted. How dangerous it is to take things out of context.
"Of course, not all my conversations in immigrant communities follow this easy pattern. In the wake of 9/11, my meetings with Arab and Pakistani Americans, for example, have a more urgent quality, for the stories of detentions and FBI questioning and hard stares from neighbors have shaken their sense of security and belonging. They have been reminded that the history of immigration in this country has a dark underbelly; they need specific assurances that their citizenship really means something, that America has learned the right lessons from the Japanese internments during WWII, and that I will stand with them should the political winds shift in an ugly direction."
from his book "Audacity of Hope" I do know that someone when into an Arabic restaurant in my fair city after 9/11 and murdered the person behind the counter. It was ruled a hate crime. We must remember what we did to Japanese Americans during WWII and I do think it is in this manner that he is referring to winds shifting in an ugly direction.

I think the money could've been put to far better use - even if the desired result was to help elect Obama. How many hungry Indians could that gold statue have fed?
The whole thing is really quite comical. Does anyone even know if BO actually carries around such a good luck charm? If he does, he'd surely deny it.
From Politico.com:
Quote:
The idea of sending an idol of Hanuman dawned on him after friends in the United States mentioned a “prominent American politician who carried a miniature Hanuman idol in his pocket for luck,” Mr. Bhama said speaking on the first day of the ceremony on Tuesday.

This gesture will be about as effective as any given MoveOn ad. Backfire central, if anything at all, IMO.

I don't get it. Is someone now saying that Obama is a Hindu, not a muslim?
Or is this just a bit more media stuff for the sake of publicity for an Indian organisation?
Lots of people carry good luck charms and religious fashion items but this one looks to be too heavy for a pocket!

Seems like this organization should be sending a totem to Nielson company who is about to export thousands of jobs to Indians who have been brought in on special visa, fire their local employees, but not before forcing them to train the new employees.
Of course all done under a Bush watch. and all done legally. and all the doings of anti-american politicians that favor world government and employement over local. For gods sake. where have their congressmen and senators been to head this monopoly off at the pass?
Guess they are hoping Obama will continue with the same program. You have to understand, Xania, that hundreds of thousands of jobs have either been exported to India, or Indians have been brought in on special visa at lower pay rate. Even the US federal government has exported communications work to India, and leaving Americans jobless.

It happened here long ago, Arrow.
That is why manufacturing industries have dissolved away, skills have moved Eastwards, and we are left with "service industries" - tourism and insurance, for instance!
Though what any one politician can or will do about it, I don't know.
