Movie Reviews : "Party Monster" and "American
So we rented movies yesterday and for the first time in a LONG time I got two great ones.
American Splendor is the story of an average joe who deals with life by writing comic book stories about himself and his friends. It is the true tale of semi comic genius Harvey Pekar. I loved the unique look of this film and the way they blended the real life Harvey and Co with the people portraying them in the movie. At one point they add a third layer and Molly Shannon briefly appears as Harvey's wife. Kind of like the Bjork video for "Bachelorette". Very entertaining.
Even better was Party Monster, yet another true tale based on a book by one of the people portrayed in the film by Seth Green. Party Monster has an amazing cast, each doing a great job. Macaulay Culkin, Chloe Sevigny, Dylan McDermott and that hispanic dude from My So-Called Life. The action is fast-paced, funny, and very very interesting. Oh and the soundtrack is GREAT. Note FEZ from That 70s Show playing none other than Superstar DJ Keoki. ("You love it, I love it... Jealousy.....")
