Methadone and Schedule II drugs
I am living in Florida as well as my aunt. She has been on methadone for quite some time for pain from a Pain clinic. Well my question is similar to many of the others. She needs to go to Indiana for about 6 weeks and she ask one of the girls at her clinic what could be done about getting her meds while she is in Indiana. The answer was: The law is, a person must be seen to get a prescription for schedule II drugs. But to be able to get the pain medicine she would have to call from Indiana and tell them a few days before her next coming appointment that she will not be back until another 2 weeks and give them the date she would be back in Florida. Then they would mail her enough methadone to last her for those two weeks and etc etc.
Now, I am not a genius but I could bet my life there is no law stating that a doctor must see the patient every time they are given a C-II prescription. I remember when the DEA started calling the pharmacist and doctors and telling them they were not suppose to be post dating scripts but why would a doctor make his personnel think that his patients must be seen every time. How awful it has been since the doc's had to quite writing for two extra scripts so a decent person could go somewhere without having to beg to go. What do you say about such lies?
Let me know the statute in the law that says anything like what I mentioned. Would the DEA get the doc in trouble if the doc had a person come and pick up a script or if it were mailed to the patient?
Thanks, DDuke
