Default FDA Imposed Testing for Supplements

Quote:
For the first time, manufacturers of vitamins, herbal pills and other dietary supplements will have to test all of their products' ingredients.

The Food and Drug Administration said Friday it is phasing in a new rule that is designed to address concerns that existing regulations allowed supplements onto the market that were contaminated or didn't contain ingredients claimed on the label.

Read about that in the paper today, sounds like the FDA might actually be going something right for a change.
I just hope that there is no poison pill hidden in the new laws.

I predict it will drive some good honest small companies out of business. All herbs have to be tested? What is an herb? An herb is a plant. Many so-called herbs can be used nutritionally or medicinally. Will the ginger and cilantro in the produce mart have to be certified? How about the turmeric?

I'd rather fend for myself than have some overpaid bureaucrat protecting me. Hell, it took the US 150 years to get rid of the "federal tea tasters".

LycoRed brings high-lycopene tomato raisins to functional market

By Jess Halliday in Beer-Shiva

25/06/2007 - LycoRed is introducing a new lycopene ingredient in the form of a dried cherry tomato that is remarkably high in the antioxidant, enabling foods to be fortified without complex regulatory situations posing a barrier. https://www.nutraingredients.com/news...dggtmjqqywwfsl
I think I know what they're trying to avoid. Pills and capsules are BigPharma's turf.
