Default L-Ornithine May Combat Fatigue

Quote:
OSAKA, Japan Researchers found L-ornithine, a free amino acid, has an anti-fatigue effect by increasing the efficiency of energy consumption and promoting the excretion of ammonia (Nut. Res. 2008;28(11):738-43).

In a double blind, placebo-controlled, two-way crossover study, 17 healthy volunteers were randomized to L-ornithine (2000 mg/d for seven days and 6000 mg/d for one day as L-ornithine hydrochloride) or placebo for eight days.

L-ornithine administration promoted lipid metabolism and activated the urea cycle from serum triacylglycerol, ketone bodies, free fatty acids and blood ammonia level changing. L-ornithine significantly attenuated the subjective feeling of fatigue compared with postload (P<0.01).

Moreover, in female subjects, the subjective feeling of fatigue was significantly lower compared with the placebo group (P<0.05). In the physical performance test in female subjects, the decrease in mean speed for 10 seconds maximum pedaling from 0.5- to 3.5-hour trials in the group receiving L-ornithine was smaller than that in the group receiving placebo (P<0.05).

Researchers recommend L-ornithine intake as a nutritional supplement in cases of physical fatigue.

Default D-Ribose

For increasing energy, I would suggest D-Ribose, powder or capsule.

Arrowwind,

I know of several. I'm sure these are also available on different sites. Perhaps at even better prices.

I hope this helps.

Well, guess I could have looked there myself.....

The NOW pro GH looks interesting. My doc said that IGF-1 may contribute to
diabetes, its a theory, they are unsure. You know anything about this?

Do you thin now products in general are good?
I bought one of there CMO products and was disappointed as was my friend who is a real barometer for what anti inflammation products work..

Howdy, Arrowwind.

I just search IHerb out of familiarity and laziness.

I did skim through the GH products that I previously linked to. I believe the Pro GH looks pretty good. I wish it didn't have any added fructose though. Aside from that, it seems like something that may be worth a shot.

Generally speaking, I like the Now Foods products. I don't necessarily like all of their products however. For instance, I wouldn't use any of their multivitamin/minerals because I don't care for their composition.

Currently, we (myself and my family) use a number of their products. I use their ECGC (green tea extract), proline, lysine, chondroitin, psyllium and a few others.

I do have confidence in their quality. They appear to have a pretty solid quality-control system in place. And, I've found them to be quite responsive to my QC inquiries in the past.

IGF-1 is a complicated matter. One that I can't, at this point, comment on intelligently. I do know that it does play a controversial role in certain conditions. For instance, if I'm not mistaken, it's thought to be somehow implicated in the development of a variety of cancers.

Perhaps that's something your doctor can help to clarify. Many times, the relationships between biological substances and diseases are even more complicated than than relatioships between family members at Thanksgiving or politicians in a new administration.

Ok. So I got some Pro GH and took it before bed. Does not taste bad at all. But I couldn't get to sleep for hours...so due to having to get up at 4:30 to go to work
I haven't done it again, but will try tonight.
