I see vehicle insurance as a different animal. A vehicle is like a deadly weapon that inflicts damage on others driven by all kinds of idiots at various levels of impairment. If you want to drive you have to assure the public that you can pay for damages you may do, and lets face it, most of us have an accident at least once, some severe where people are hurt and maimed including the insured's own passengers and if people didn't have insurance the suffering would be immense beyond measure. If people are going to barrel down the freeway at 75 miles per hour or cruise through neighborhoods at 35 with 5 tons of steel behind their cellphones, they better dam well have insurance. The option is a bus or taxi, or bike or walk. Its not like you don't have choice. I had no vehicle for a part of my life. You can create your life to live without cars and insurance. It is not a right it is a privilege and until they ammend the constitution to state that driving is a right then we all can dam well buy auto insurance.

Uninsured motorist insurance is a state mandated rider on a policy in some states and if a company wants to demand that in order for you to purchase a policy from them you must purchase uninsured motorists, that is there right also. You could take your business elsewhere.

I don't see that much difference. Not on the financial side of the fence. I have to pay higher vehicle insurance due to the irresponsibility of others. I have to keep my health insurance deductible high, $5000, just so I can pay my monthly premium. I just don't go to the doctor at all, since I have to pay out of pocket up to $5000 per year before the insurance company will help. That's ridiculous. I just use it for catastrophic or structural problems and stick to the altmed world for the rest. My insurance is most likely high due to so very many people not being as responsible as I am. Somehow they manage to survive without insurance. Why don't I have the guts for that? Should I drop my health insurance and hope nothing happens until I get into Medicare in 4 more years? I was at least hoping for a gov health option to give competition to the market. There are only a few insurers in TX; and it is the same in each State. That is ridiculous too.

Well fortunately for me, i dont have a bum to divorce.. and dont plan on ever getting one, but, I got three kids that are married, and they are all struggling to make ends meet as it is..... So arrow, would you be willing to get a divorce in order to pay for that insurance they gonna force us into???? Can you imagine how many people will not get married because of that.... And as far as refusing to pay for the healthcare, if I understood it right, if you dont pay, they will take it out of your tax return or somehow make you pay it thru your taxes

I don't have a bum to divorce either so that is out...Since I don't expect to be paying taxes this year guess that consideration is out also, they will have nothing to raid, so they can't get us there. We already don't have health insurance. We did have a policy with a 10,000 deductible last year but I just can't seem to bring myself to start it again.

As I stated somewhere else on this forum today I am ready to go to jail as an act of civil disobediance for not purchasing health insurance. The governement has no right to force us to spend our money on this simply because we exist. They would have to force a consitiutional ammendment through the houses first, which will never happpen, before I would ever consider complying merely to comply with the "law".

I do think some people would divorce but ultimatly I think the clamor will be so loud that that part will get revised to make it more equitable. we shall see. It would not be the first time people avoided marraige in our nation to avoid taxation....

I have a 70 year old friend that says Medicare is not free; and it is mandatory. He pays about $100 a month. That does not include the supplementals outside of Medicare. Now, he and his wife can very well afford it; so maybe that's the difference. Though I don't see how the gov can know whether someone can afford it, since IRAs are not reportable.

Jim,

IRA's may not be reportable for tax purposes, but you'd better believe that the government knows it's there. I think the banks and government are pretty much one these days and for the past five years, at least, all banks and credit agencies have to report your information when you open a new account, by federal law.

Try moppong up in an ER for a while then take care of the brain damaged mothers and fathers and grandparents and kids who wet their pants and have tube feeding for a couple of years and various other physical atrocities of undetermined duration, to no fault of their own except being in the wrong place at the wrong time, then you may see the difference. They are all around you even if you don't see them.
