Default Just Read a post here about portion control and calories....

Wow...I read one of the older Atkins books. By everything that I got out of it, I did not know that we needed to count and limit the calories. I thought (like the other poster) that you could eat all the meat you wanted....all the eggs you want, all the cheese you want, all the pork skins you want. I was so wrong. I will have to try and do better on the limit of meat. Thanks for pointing this out. ebe

Initially, during Induction, Dr. Atkins didn't want you to worry about portions. But as you start to lose weight, your body needs less and less food to maintain your weight. So you need to eat less food over time. Dr. A's hope was that as you went on this diet, you would naturally eat less as you were less and less hungry, but some folks who haven't read carefully didn't or don't hear that part.

That is why i recommend Fitday. It is a great way to see how many carbs and calories you are eating a day and how many calories you burn based on your lifestyle and activity level. If you consistently keep what you eat below what you burn, you will lose weight. There is no magic Atkins diet trick that overtime lets you eat whopping amounts of excess calories, even low carb and continue to lose weight unless you change something else, like your activity level.

HEHE...I can't resist...

You can eat all you want, as long as all you want is normal portions!

Really though, most people can loose wieght by switching to atkins and being carefull with the carbs... appetite reduces naturally and the calories most of us carb addicts ate come into line when we cut out the sugar and bread and everything we ate with them...

BUT for some, that isn't enough. And for many, after a long run of success, portion sizes have to be reduced to continue to loose. Afterall, as we have smaller bodies, we need less energy to keep them running. (Though this is offset a bit if we exercise and add muscele)

i've been on induction for almost a week and i have not been counting calories at all. i eat as much meat as i want, some cheese, some vegetables (within the limits) and have been drinking TONS of water. i also take a multivitamin and exercise a lot. the fact that i'm not counting calories, could that hinder my weight loss? so far, i've seen a difference. in muscle mass, fat loss, and weight. and yes, i am feeling less energized. but ultimately, will the excess calories get me?

p.s. i'm 19 years old, 5'7" and around 116 pounds, just so you know

thanks

If you're 5'7" and only weigh 116 lbs... why on earth would you want to lose any more weight???

it's not really the amount of pounds i'm worried about. i have a problem with abdominal fat. that's where it all goes, and it looks horrible. i look out of proportion. so i'm trying to shed that stubborn belly fat.

Then it's just genetics, and weight will always gather in that area. If you really want it gone then it's going to take a combination of targeted weight training and cardio, diets won't work sadly.

Well, if you're dieting but at a healthy weight yet still working out, I can see the problem. Have you already tried dietless days but with crunches?
