Exclamation OCD

Hi...my brother-in-law suffers from severe OCD (over compulsive disorder) He is only 19 and he has been on numerous medications. I am trying to convince them to go see a natural doctor but they argue that they don't have enough money. Western medicine is not working. He does not have a job and has a girlfriend in another country who does not really realize what he has. He wants to move there and get a job. We do not think he will be able to make it financially on his own..as he has been living with his parents who do a lot for him. Has anyone ever heard of there being a link with allergies and OCD? I believe he has severe allergies...as his side of the family is always sick. My husband who is his brother has allergies and so do my 2 boys. They have not checked out his allergies. What is something we can do to convince them to take a different route?
PLEASE HELP...My mother-in-law is a strong person and not emotional and this has ruined her life and she cries alot over it not knowing what to do.

Welcome aboard cdbeukel.

Allergies stem from adrenal gland dysfunction. When we are exposed to an allergen the adrenals respond by releasing epinephrine and corticosteroids to counter allergic responses. The epinephrine counters histamine and leukotrienes, while the corticosteroids are immune modulators and anti-inflammatory. Allergic responses, including asthma, are treated with epinephrine and possibly steroids. Both of these substances are produced by the adrenal glands.

The adrenal glands use more vitamin C than any other part of the body. So this would be the first thing to focus on. The next most important thing is pantothenic acid. This can be found in a B complex vitamin supplement. The best natural source for pantothenic acid is bee pollen. Some people may be allergic to bee pollen though. I think the a B-50 complex is good. Anything over 50 is a waste. Makes pretty bright yellow pee though.

Herbs that support the adrenal glands include schisandra berry, astragalus, nettle leaf, Siberian ginseng, suma, ashwagandha, Arctic root, and small doses of licorice root. Some of these have adaptogenic qualities; and that is why the support the adrenals.

Most all herbs are best on an empty stomach. Fats and proteins can block absorption.

Good luck with this. Allergies come and go. I think the best thing to do is support the glands that improve your immune system.

If there is a link with allergies and OCD, I think it would be the adrenal glands.

I know 3 people who have OCD and all 3 have tried drug treatment, 2 with paxil and one with a bunch of different things. All 3 are not using the drugs anymore, but all 3 have serious issues. The one was helped the most with drugs (paxil) completely loses his OCD (without drugs) when he goes on vacation. But all 3 have wierd behaviors

One of them washes his hands over 50 times a day and has way too many rituals.

The other one spends money like it is monopoly money (credit cards) and keeps getting furthur in debt.

The one who loses his OCD when on vacation, blames FOX news for all the world's ills.

I would suggest him NOT moving to another country and to seek some type of natural support for awhile.

Well, it seems that the first problem is getting his mother to come to her senses. You need to have some very long talks with her with lots of chamomile and lobelia tea available.

OCD is extrememly difficult. I have seen many cases and I have not seen a direct correlation with allergy but when they system goes aray anything can happen.

If it were my family I would be heading for the homeopath. A strong well trained homeopath with at least 10 years experience then stick with him for at least 6 months, probably both mother and son, as she is a support for him she must become rational. The idea that they cannot afford treatment is bogus. They cannot afford not to have treatment as there will be no quality of life and the child will never be able to make a decent living. Put it on a credit card. Health is one of the few things worth going into debt for.

CDBEUKEL,

One option may be to consider NAC (N-acetyl cysteine) as an adjunct to conventional treatment. It might be worth discussing with his mom and/or physicians. Some doctors are receptive to it as it's beginning to make in roads in conventional psychiatric circles:

I just thought of something. ALL 3 people I know with OCD have one thing in common. They all east vary narrow diets (basically all 3 of them eat the same damn thing every day with little variation)
