I've been struggling with gastritis for like two years now!! Under endoscopy No ulcers, no hpolyri, no celiac signs, they havent found any reason. I'm eating a bland diet and watching acidic foods. What should I take for this? I'm in my early 20's no idea where this came from no drinking no smoking. I refuse to take the PPI, I tried it and well I'm still in the same situation. Symptoms; Burning under the ribs, belching, gas, searing stabbing pain under the ribs that goes into the back. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi butterflylady, welcome to the forum! The only thing I could suggest trying, if you haven't done so yet, would be Aloe Vera Juice. A good brand is Lily of the Desert, and I would use the 'inner fillet' style. Buy a gallon at your local health food store, and drink a couple of glasses per day. You may experience some relief before the bottle is empty. If it helps, then lesser amounts on a daily basis would be recommended. Good luck.

I would have guessed h.pylori, but you've already ruled that out. It seems like it would be something like that, since it has lasted so long.
The next question is, why do you think you need to stay away from acid foods? Do you think this is something like acid reflux? This bland diet might be part of the problem actually. Do you eat meat? If not, you could be B12 deficient. The entire digestive system operates with acid. It is absolutely required. The body has numerous redundant systems to keep pH in balance, but you may have defeated this.
Here's what I would try, and it is very harmless. First and most important would be probiotics. Even though you may be eating yogurt, you should still consider a probiotic supplement. Try to find one that contains a wide variety of bacteria. The bacteria will maintain a slightly acid environment in the intestines and help you fight off bad bacteria.
I recommend digestive bitters. Take a half dropper before your meals. This will help to improve your enzymes and improve your stomach digestive acid. The bitters are of course bitter. You only need enough for the back of the tongue, where the bitter receptors are located, to taste them. When you get a chance, read about bitters here https://www.healthy.net/scr/Article.aspx?Id=862 And these are the digestive bitters that I like the best. https://www.iherb.com/Digestive-Grape...-ml/19147?at=0
Something else you could try is apple cider vinegar. Put 2 tablespoons in water and drink with your meals. This will improve your stomach acid temporarily. Also this does a boatload of other healing things for you.
It is frustrating when you can't find a good diagnostician. I know the feeling.
Thanks, yeah after I got off PPI's because it was only making more burning, I started using Aloe Vera Juice it helps with the burning and acidity to a point and calmed out the damage from the PPI, but still its not totally healing the gastritis. I know the stomach takes a long time to heal but its been so long I don't get it. There is no hpolyri none whatsover I had a complete biopsy to look and a stool test. I do not have B12 anemia that is associated with gastritis I had my levels checked. He suspects its coming from stress (21 years old okay ummm..), this I can't get either how it can go on years like this and when I practice yoga and I take ballet. I'm very in shape!! I just finished college so stress has decreased. I def don't feel stressed, and I take a good positive attitude to life even with gastritis.
The reason for eating bland is because acidic foods irritate the stomach, esp tomato that will cause the gastritis to have reinflammation, high seasoned foods fats acidic foods, I eat some meat just not loads maybe 2 times a week-usual salmon, chicken or turkey, rare red meat (I eat a good amounts of veggies and fruits) etc.. I do not have acid reflux no acid comes up my esophagus its all gastritis. Thanks for your insights on bitters though the grape juice and orange would worry me (I can't even handle grape juice or orange without burning-I think its acidic).
I have heard of ACV or Betatine HCI tablets being used a lot for people with acid reflux-based on the theory that its not high acid they are lacking acid, for gastritis I'm scared to take something so high in acid if it hits the stomach and increases inflammation would equal more pain. It's unclear for me if gastritis is a result of high acid or low acid, everything contradicts on this. If I take the risk and take the Betatine HCI tablets, I could end up burning a serious ulcer hole through my stomach, or I could find relief its very risky!
I'm currently taking Bastyr Formula B, Mastic Gum, DGL, Aloe Vera Juice, Ulcetrol by Now Foods and VSL#3 Probiotics ( I don't want to over do taking to much, but I've also considered taking a digestive enzyme or increasing eating papaya). It all gives a little relief and keeps the burning gnawing stomach pain down, but then the gas and belching and burning will continue- the gastritis is still there years and years it's just hopeless to cure, something that is suppose to cure!!
I go in every year for an endoscopy to see if its gone, and went last month STILL THERE. I've talked to quite a few people with gastritis and very few found are getting any relief, one woman I know has had it 11 years. It's strange too, 11 years still gastritis and no ulcer formation, same for me. You would think an ulcer would of appeared by now. I have a trip to India coming up with a good friend, I plan on seeing how ayurevedic's work for gastritis, I've read they use amla, and aviptikkar churna a lot for this.I think though I am doing all I can, but I must be missing an important link or treatment combo that works. Thanks though for the reply!
The digestive bitters will help with the gas among several other things. Your food must be just sitting there and fermenting. That is what produces the gas in both stomach and intestines. Your stomach digestive acid must be low. That usually happens when we are older than 40, not at your young age. Do try the ACV with the Mother. Those are enzymes. If you must, you could try an enzyme supplement, but I don't recommend such for long duration use. Your body will stop producing them itself.
Butterflylady I'll bet you a million dollars that you took a lot of antibiotics 5 to 10 years ago. You are now paying the price for that. Let me explain - Everyone has trillions of friendly bacteria in thier stomachs that weigh between 3 and 4 pounds that is needed to digest food and provide vitamins. Taking antibiotics, while killing off the bad bacteria will also kill off all the friendly bacteria. This friendly bacteria also keep fungus at bay so when killed allows the fungus to grow and take over the stomach. This is what you are experiencing now.
You could ask your doctor for Nystatin which is an antifungal and safe to take. Otherwise go to your health food store and buy some caprylic acid capsules, garlic oil, or other antifungal that the store has. You also need to go on a zero carbohydrate diet for at least a month. Carbs are converted to sugar in the body and that is the primary source of fuel for fungus. You starve the fungus by restricting the carbs. Eat all the vegetables and meat that you want but no grains, pasta, alchohol, sugar, potatoes, legumes, rice, corn, mushrooms, bread, pickles, soda, peanuts or pistachios. I know this is very restrictive but you will see a difference in as little as one week. You will then know that you are on the right track. Also do not be afraid to take probiotics even by the handfull - you must replace the friendly bacteria you killed off. Oh yeah, eat most of your vegetables raw.
Watch the tv show Know the Cause with Doug Kaufmann or go to his website www.knowthecause.com and read all you can there. You can also watch his tv shows online.
Follow this advice and I guarantee that you will feel better.

Funny you say that Ive heard that Candida can cause gastritis as well, Ive been having a never ending supply of vaginal yeast infections along with the gastritis but didnt think that could connect. I'll go ahead and give this a shot though, Its true I was on antibiotics right before I got gastritis for a UTI infection.
I would say it is one of two things. C-Diff or H-Pylori.
You may have had tests for these, but I had three tests for H-pylori that all came back negative, and one was a biopsy.
After finding no other possible cause, I treated for H-Pylori using a Rife device and the specific frequency of 676 Hz which is only for H-pylori. I have had no burning stomach pain since that treatment. That was three years ago.
The lesson learned is these tests are not accurate. They can only prove you have the infection, not that you do not.
I'm being tested next week for food allergies- particular gluten and other food allergies. We have not done this testing yet and it's always possible this can cause gastritis to run on and on for years esp in a younger person. My mom was telling me today that she wants me to get a Celiac test because my father has it (she never told me this nor him so this was new to me). I never realized his food habits were gluten free, because I didn't live with him. It's possible for me to have an allergy, I'm allergic to trees and grasses certain ones, and I am allergic to chlorine in water, I get a serious rash from head to toe (I have to use a filter in the shower and all through the house). So any other food allergy wouldn't be off the list. I'll be tested next week. I hope to find out whats going on! Thanks again.
What really helped me was moringa olefiera. I had h.pylori. Between that and the three course anti biotic they gave me I was down for the count. I took sucralfate for like four months after the endoscopy. No help. A kid on the track teams dad recommended moringa so I bought some. Every since then not only has the gastritis gone, but my tendonitis in my wrists has gone as well.
Totally negative!!!!!! So right back to square nothing lol.
I've noticed though that after I eat the belching and gas starts up and burning, my mom is thinking to look into my enzymes and that im having improper digestion issues. For example possible fiber and carbs.
The problem that you have has been caused by the antiboitic that flushed your bad and good bacteria out. My son had the same problem. After taking antibiotic for ear infection he developed other GI symptoms including diarrhea x1month, that I couln't stop. I started looking for natural medicine treatments and luckily I found a health consultant through my friend that gave me recomendation. I started him on natural medicine and it worked, he felt better on 3rd day. He had another big problem, asthma, and I used the same natural medicine and the symptoms starting fading and it was gone withing 1mo. Asthma is gone now and he has no symptoms of it. The treatment course was for 3month, but nothing is more important then our health! If you want to treat you problem let me know and I will ask my health consultant about the treatment plan for you.
Thanks, I have tried traditional meds and then i rid all meds and went 100 precent natural meds ive tried a good handful now, for the past year actual even probiotics as strong as VSL#3 and PB8 probiotics every day religiously withsome relief the probiotic will calm the burn a bit but doesnt stop the belching or bloat all the time. Thanks all for trying to find a reason I prob never will know at this rate.. All i know is i belch all the time im gassy,im bloated, my stomach burns. Went in for endoscopy/colonscopy he says the gastritis is way way WAY to mild so mild he wouldnt even call it gastritis just some very tiny inflammation that looked almost healed and way little to have this much belching and bloating but he had no clue what is wrong even after biopsy, he did not feel it w as IBS- I mostly belch burn of the stomach and gas, he felt it was more than swallowing air with the burning of stomach but no idea what it is and left me hanging it was lovely! But sure pass over the treatment plan, not saying itll wor kfor me but sure I can try? I'm just going to end up being a mystery case stuck like this for life!
My enzyme test is next week... this is my last test to try I've done it all ive checked about every organ you can imagine and pricked till the blood runs dry, ive tried elimination diets and special bland diets, everything so this will be it it's all that I can afford, and I may end up just having to manage with this by eating bland and a mostly raw veggie and vegeterian diet and the herbs and probiotics I already take but it's just gonna be a mystery malfunction of constant belching, severe stomach burning, gas and stomach bloat. My mom is getting more and more confident though its an enzyme issue and slow digestion problem the belching gas and bloat is real severe after eating for like hours on end, she has even told me to try just going fiber free for a while too and lower carb but wants me to be tested before taking enzymes cause something like they can have side effects if taken to high dosage or make the pancreas stop producing shes not sure thats true but she heard.
Stop using all dairy products - some people cannot tolerate them and I am one of those who after years of being told I had IBS and getting no relief I stopped using dairy products and the bloating, burning, pain, etc went away.
