MCTs May Promote Weight-Loss
Quote:
note: I've lost some weight lately. I attribute my weight-loss primarily to a lower-carbohydrate diet (and a little exercise). But, I have also been consuming a fair share of coconut milk (as part of my diet). Maybe that's partially responsible for my recent success.

Does the coconut oil supplements have the same effect as consuming the actual oil?

It might. MCT oil is typically derived from coconut oil because (coconut oil) is very rich in MCTs. From a health standpoint, I suspect that using a good coconut oil would be a better choice than an MCT oil. The only way to know for sure is to do a "personal trial".

Thanks
Thanks Harry...
I've been using the coconut oil for about 3 weeks, 3 tablespoons or more a day. I have so much energy its incredible, and I have lost a few of the pounds I've gained from the Synthroid being the wrong dose. (although I think they've finally got it right). I've lost 8 lbs. and have 6 to go. If the capsules will work the same I'd rather do them. Geez, remember I only take 30 a day now instead of 45!! LOL!! I think I'll try them next go round. I'm almost out of the 54 ou. size of the solid coconut oil that I started with. Can you recommend a good brand of the capsules? Thanks.

I don't think supplements are the way to go with coconut oil.
What I did was to look for a bulk buy container of coconut oil. I found that by buying a 10litre flagon for 75 delivered. It worked out around 3.50 for a 500ml pot of virgin organic that the local health foods shops were selling for over 12. I use it for general cooking. It makes a good mayo and you can add it to coffee as you would cream, even nice with green tea. I fry my breakfast bacon and eggs in it (it splatters a bit but it's fine on low heat. You can buy non organic coconut oil from Asian Grocers that supply the local ethnic community, it's much cheaper and doesn't have the same coconutty taste that may be an advantage for frying onions for a dish you don't want everything to have a hint of coconut flavor. Has anyone found a UK source of MCT oil. The cheapest I can find is 19 ish including delivery. I'd use it if I could find a cheaper source. Coconut oil is solid at room temperature so although it will make a good mayo I'd like the MCT which is liquid at room temperature to make a vinagrette. |

This is where I get my coconut oil from but I don't know if they send to UK
Its very good, although I don't use much as my husband doesn't like the coconut flavor it adds to food. Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil - Certified Organic from Tropical Traditions

Don't tell anyone else, lets keep it as our little secret. It appears that dietetic supplementation with coconut oil does not cause dyslipidemia and seems to promote a reduction in abdominal obesity. |
