Supplements Ease Hip Dysplasia Pain/Discomfort
My girl was diagnosed with Hip Dysplasia a year and a half ago, when she was barely 5 years old. She was slow to get up from a lying position, and would sometimes limp. Her hips would sway back and forth, especially when fatigued. At times in the car, when turning to be in another position, she would whimper slightly.
The Vet gave me some Rimadyl for her, which helped to relieve the pain. I did give it to her for the first week, but I told the Vet that I didn't want to give her that drug due to all the negative side effects. He recommended Chondro-Flex, which is a joint care supplement, and sold me a bottle in his office.
This supplement has made a big difference in my girl's overall well-being, it really seems to help the discomfort and she's much better today, than when I took her to the doctor. She goes on 2 mile walks with me and my other dog 5 days a week, and when we were on vacation she was taking hikes with us up to 6 miles, climbing hills, jumping and romping.
There's a lot of good joint supplements for dogs out there, I like the fact that they're chewable, and convenient for camping trips. I still use the same brand, but I buy it online to save some money. I also only give her half the dose recommended on the bottle, she's on prescription medication for idiopathic seizures now, and I don't want too much stuff in her system if I can help it.
The ingredients are Glucosamine, MSM, Sodium Chondroitin Sulfate, Vitamin C, Yucca Root powder, DL-Methionine, Manganese Proteinate, Zinc Proteinate and Copper Proteinate. Inactive ingredients are Calcium Carbonate, Copper Sulfate, Dessicated Beef Liver, Dessicated Pork Liver, Manganese Oxide, Manganese Proteinate, Yucca Shidigera and Zinc Oxide.
