Unhappy D level

My D level, July 28 was 15 L. Checked again, October 29, it was 10 L. Reference range for female is: 30-100 ng/mL. Obviously my doctor doesn't care as all he says is, "Your Vitamin D is low.". I have NOW Highest Potency Vitamin D-3 (as Cholecalciferol) 5,000 IU.

With readings like that I would be taking two of those soft gels per day, at least for a month, then one per day til summer.

It would be wise to have this checked again in 3 months.

Pinbally,
That is what I'm going to do. I'm certain my doctor will order another D in January since my D was low in July, then again in October. It is sad knowing it was low, yet took over a year to talk him into ordering.

Thumbs up

My D level was slightly low too - early Nov '10, even at 5000iu daily. Dr suggested an extra 1000iu daily,
but I'm taking 5000iu one day & 10,000iu the next.

Startling Findings About Vitamin D Levels in Life Extension Members

Bear in mind 5000iu/d only just gets most people above the 40ng/ml threshold.
If you want a stored reserve of vitamin D available to control infection or cancer proliferation then a level around 60ng/ml would be required.

Individual response to daily D3 varies enormously so whatever strategy you decide retest 25(OH)D after 3~6 months and adjust intake by 1000iu/d more/less for each 10/ng/ml you are below/above 60ng/ml.
