Default The Race for the Cure has been won in China - HIFU

Wu, F., Z. B. Wang, et al. (2003)"A randomised clinical trial of high-intensity focused ultrasound ablation for the treatment of patients with localised breast cancer." Br J Cancer 89(12): 2227-33.
High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) is a noninvasive treatment that induces complete coagulative necrosis of a tumour at depth through the intact skin. This study was to explore the possibility of using HIFU for the treatment of patients with localised breast cancer in a controlled clinical trial. A total of 48 women with biopsy-proven breast cancer (T(1-2), N(0-2), M0) were randomised to the control group in which modified radical mastectomy was performed, and the HIFU group in which an extracorporeal HIFU ablation of breast cancer was followed by modified radical mastectomy. Short-term follow-up, pathologic and immunohistochemical stains were performed to assess the therapeutic effects on tumour and complications of HIFU. The results showed that no severe side effect was observed in the HIFU-treated patients. Pathologic findings revealed that HIFU-treated tumour cells underwent complete coagulative necrosis, and tumour vascular vessels were severely damaged. Immunohistochemical staining showed that no expression of PCNA, MMP-9, and CD44v6 was detected within the treated tumour cells in the HIFU group, indicating that the treated tumour cells lost the abilities of proliferation, invasion, and metastasis. It is concluded that, as a noninvasive therapy, HIFU could be effective, safe, and feasible in the extracorporeal treatment of localised breast cancer.

Think anyone is interested in this cheap easy cure in this country?

If I had breast cancer I would go to Shanghai and get this doctor's treatment, if you google PubMed and then search HIFU + breast cancer you will read that Dr. Feng Wu has treated over one thousand women with breast cancer ~ successfully ~ using ultra sound, HIFU, in clinical trials. Who knows how many he has treated outside the trials.

The Oxford Hospital in England and somewhere in Germany, is starting clinical trials.

I just find it disgusting that we ignor these positive steps in health care. It could save us zillions of dollars, and countless lives.

Sure You try telling people in Cancer Research that Vitamin D Prevents Cancer: Is It True? and you soon realize that if no one can profit from free vitamin D from sunlight or cheap D3 in effective amount from supplements then they just aren't interested.

We now know (or at least have a pretty good idea) how How Vitamin D Reduces the Incidence of Cancer: The DINOMIT Model but you won't find that information on any Cancer Research site as it's simply not going to make any money and may very well cost a lot of health professionals their jobs.

In order to fund current research budgets people have to be afraid of cancer. They will be kept afraid if they personally know people with the condition or who have died of the condition. So keeping the numbers of cancer incidence high plays into their hands. Hence the reluctance to support anything, however cheap, however safe to lower incidence or improve prognosis.

Activation of Tumor-Infiltrating Antigen Presenting Cells by High Intensity Focused Ultrasound Ablation of Human Breast Cancer
Previous studies have shown that high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) ablation can trigger activation of host antitumor responses after direct tumor destruction.
The goal of this study was to investigate the status and functions of tumor-infiltrating antigen presenting cells (APCs) after HIFU ablation of human breast cancer, and to explore the mechanisms regarding HIFU-enhanced antitumor response.
Forty-eight women with biopsy-proven breast cancer were divided randomly into a control group (n = 25) and a HIFU group (n = 23). Patients in the control group received modified radical mastectomy, and those in the HIFU group underwent HIFU ablation of primary breast cancer, followed by modified radical mastectomy within 1–2 weeks. Using immunohistochemical analysis, tumor-infiltrating dendritic cells (DCs), macrophages, B lymphocytes and expression of HLA-DR and costimulatory molecules on DCs and macrophages were assessed in all patients.
The results showed that APCs infiltrated along the margins of the ablated regions in all HIFU-treated tumors, and numbers of tumor-infiltrating DCs, macrophages and B lymphocytes increased significantly in the HIFU group.

Compared with the values in the control group, the percentage of DCs and macrophages expressing HLA-DR, CD80 and CD86 was significantly greater in the HIFU group. There were statistically significant differences between numbers of S-100+ HLA-DR+, S-100+ CD80+, S-100+ CD86+, CD68+ HLA-DR+, CD68+ CD80+ and CD68+ CD86+ cells in the control and HIFU groups, respectively.

It was concluded that HIFU ablation induces significant infiltration of APCs within the residual tumor debris in patients with breast cancer, and most of the tumor-infiltrating DCs and macrophages were activated after HIFU ablation.[/I]
Here is a more recent one that's quite promising.

My reading --same as yours?? :

The article you posted above says that ultrasound actually activates natural killer cells....after it kills the cancer. I sure hope that proves true as husband had HIFU for prostate cancer.

My article describes how they did the tests--they used HIFU to kill the cancer, then they cut the breast off to discect it and prove it had worked, and it had killed all the cancer. Now, they don't need to cut it off anymore.

I sure wonder how many women have been treated that aren't in clinical trials....

Wouldn't it be nice if a doctor here started a clinic in Mexico treating women???

Ted,
Well....my husband is a mountain climber, ice climber & skiier, we live at high altitude 8,000'), he is off hiking right now- up to 12,000'. I cannot keep him indoors, and he only just started using sun block. He had prostate cancer. And there's lots of cancer here where we live, when we had our vitamin D level checked it was extremely high--within 1 to 5 numbers of being considered too high. So...?

So what were those numbers and were your docs up on the idea that chronic disease should have numbers up in the 70 to 90 range? Maybe you can call your doc and check what your levels were?

We shouldn't get hung up in the idea that high levels of vitamin D will prevent all cancer at all times, but wouldn't it be nice if it were that simple. I have found that it will not prevent all colds as they so tout.

Okay, I looked it up...(I still have a copy of the test)....Mayo Clinic:

My level was "HIGH", it was 100, normal was 22-67pg/mL (33 over)

hummm, my memory is failing me...I don't have a copy of his test, but I remember it was close to my score. Doctor said both results were good.

They do have lower cancer rates in Asia....they also don't eat meat much.....they don't eat meat or chicken with hormones.......they get lots of sun and no sun block......

Personaly I think it's the hormones, as fat people get much more cancer, and fat on people causes excess hormone production. And, seems like most cancers are in hormone producing glands.
We only buy hormone free meat and chicken now, but it's a problem when eatting out.

And, when Asians move here ~ their cancer rates go up ~ they are the same as ours!

So you're not interested in an enhanced anti tumor response.?

Prostate cancer survival is dependent on season of diagnosis. I'm sure it isn't the case that you don't appreciate the fact that having a higher vitamin d status has demonstrably improved his cancer prognosis and he has survived longer than those with low vitamin D status.

I'd be interested to know what his health professionals considered as extremely high. 150 ~200ng is still generally considered to be the point around which adverse events may be recorded but as D3 has a half life of 3 weeks I'm sure you can work out that simply not going in the sunshine and avoiding taking vitamin D supplement drops levels in just a relatively few days. If your life times' savings depreciated at 50% every 21 days I'm sure you'd very soon find your assets pretty worthless. It's a miracle we get trough the winter with so little extra winter illness and the excess winter death rate is as low as it is.

Whatever level of vitamin D you currently have your body does tend to adapt to, so people who have sudden changes in 25(OH)D status tend to have periods when the immune system is being reprogrammed to fine tune the immune system to a new level. So there could be, with someone who has frequent rapid changes in D3 status, periods when the immune system is out of balance. If there were periods when there was too much 1.25 then it's possible that immuno suppression was happening. Our DNA evolved before air travel and the possibility of moving latitude/altitude singnificantly overnight so we aren't adapted to these sudden changes.

I try to keep my status around 55 ng 137.5nmol/l and I adjust my intake of supplements winer/summer to try to keep it even and avoid any big swings in either direction.

Of course, I think it's great that the HIFU causes more natural killer cells.

hummmm, Norway gets no sun for 6 months, yet they have the lowest cancer rates in the industrial world. Fish does give you vitamin D, they eat tons of cod. I didn't see any supplement stores, they do have vitamins, but are rare, not at all like here.

My husband was just diagnosed with cancer 8 months ago, so I don't know if he will survive longer, but I do know several people who have died from cancer who were outdoor enthusiasts.

According to Dr Rowan it may already be happening in Germany.

Fantastic!!!!

I've heard two doctors now talk about our FDA....one said "drug companies control the FDA" the other said, "the FDA has a Board of Directors and it is totally made up of surgeons and radialogists, they will drag their feet as long as they can before they approve ultrasound for any cancer".

I also met a lady who works as a researcher for cancer at MD Andersen. She hadn't heard of HIFU, she said she is told by vested interests what to research.

It's a bloody sin that we must leave the country to get good care. 66 years ago this was invented in the USA, and still we drag our feet and cover-up. Thank goodness for the computer!!

The American people should be screaming.....I guess I am!!!

Vitamin D levels are usually quoted as ng/mL or nmol/l.

but they wear concealing clothing. So vit d status is generally very deficient in Asians particularly veiled women.

Quote:

Fat people are always vitamin d deficient. Vit D is fat soluble the more fat that gets stored the more vitamin d gets locked up while at the same time the larger the fat cells the more proinflammatory cytkines are produced. So at the same time more vitamin d is being locked up with fatty acides so the demand for anti inflammatory agents increases and vitamin d status drops.

Yep the further north you move the lower your vitamin d status gets and the higher your risk of cancer.

I think there are many factors as to why Asians get an increase in cancer when they move to the USA. Lack of Vitamin D being one of many.
