Thanks for the reply.
The infection is Bacterial Vaginosis. I've had it numerous times in the past 7 years, so I know what the symptoms feel like, plus the last two times I saw the doctor about it, I was tested and the infection was definitely BV. It's possible my husband could be reinfecting me, but from what I've read, that usually is not a problem with BV - and during a lot of the time I was trying to treat the infection, we didn't have sex enough for me to think that was the reason the infection wouldn't go away. (BV and sex don't really go together well. *sigh*)
A betadine douche is one of the only natural BV treatments I haven't tried yet. My doctor said it could kill good bacteria too, so I was a little leery of trying it. (The other is collodial silver - I was scared of some of the side effects I read about.) I haven't heard of Lugols iodine and will look into that.
When MMS got rid of the infection last summer, I had gotten up to 15 drops 3 times a day. I wasn't there for a full week (can't remember why I wasn't - I think it was just hard to take MMS three times a day plus fit in the vitamins I was taking), and then stopped the MMS because we were ready to start trying to conceive. I don't have any other health issues besides this stupid infection, so it only took me a few weeks to get up to 15 drops twice a day, and I took that much (or more) for a month or so. (I was taking MMS for about 2 1/2 months total.) Taking MMS orally didn't have any effect on the infection, but using it as a douche AND orally did clear it up after about 6 weeks.
If you know of any other treatments for vaginal infections, I'd love to know about them. So far I've tried:
- Antibiotics: metronidazole, clindamyacin, and tindamax (sp)
- Hydrogen Peroxide douche
- Replens and Rephresh
- several different probiotics with the correct bacteria for the vagina
- garlic suppositories
- Bio-Fem Active Gel (only available in the UK)
- boric acid
- acidophilus
- extra folic acid
- Vitamin D (2000 IU didn't help; I'm going to try bumping up the dose)
- probably some other things I've forgotten about
A few treatments have helped minimize the symptoms, but MMS is the only thing that has seemed to actually get rid of the infection. I just apparently have to keep taking MMS at some level or the infection will come back.
