JPS, no-one else has mentioned this particular problem, but I have forwarded your post to Kevin, the administrator. Let's hope he can shed some light on it.
I get several pieces of SPAM a week. They're usually pretty easy to spot. I can't really say what is contained in the e-mails though, because I NEVER open any e-mail that I'm not certain of the sender.
The subject headers usually say things like, "Please Help" or someone's name (but not mine), something about winning a lottery, etc., etc. I don't think the number of these e-mails have increased since I signed up here.
Remember, whenever in doubt about the origin of an e-mail ... DON'T open it! It's not worth the risk.
Be well,
HH

Most spammers collect email addresses with software crawling on the Internet. If you don't publish your email address on web pages which are open to the public, you are usually safe.
On this forum, only admin and mods can see your email address, no email collecting software can get your email address, I'm sure this forum is not the source which disclosed your email.
I have gotten more emails trying to sell weight loss miracles since I posted my weight problem on the old forum, but then again, I had my email address on there too. I have also recieved a few more emails about health related stuff..... But is it possible, that when we click into some of the links that people post on the forums that they can get our email address from that.... I am asking, because I dont really know..... But the amount of spam that I have been getting is not significant enough for me to worry about yet.....

You guys are lucky!
I get about 100 e-mails per day, and fully HALF of them are spam.
I also have two firewalls, spyware, Norton ,etc. blah, blah.
I can tell you exactly when the Spam started flying our way......it happened when we switched from dial-up to cable. The exterior firewall was supposed to keep this from happening once we had an on all the time connection, but it hasn't.
Most of what we get is gobbledygook nonsense that is very obvious and never gets opened. Some are money scams, that look like legit e-mails from our ISP or our credit cards. Some are porn-type ads and some of those are even in Spanish, which we don't speak.
This started way before I discovered the old forum, let alone this one.

This is not possible unless you post your email address there.
Some common ways to get spams:
1. Using real email on newsgroups (including Google group), this is the easiest and fastest way to get tons of spams.
2. Post your email address publicly. But it usually will take the email collecting software a few months to get your email address.
3. Some evil websites. I would say this is very unusual, especially for non-commercial websites. It's not easy to get people register, 1000 members may take more than a year, spammers can buy thousands of emails with a few bucks.
when I get emails I cant cancel I 'block sender' it works for a while then they find a new address and I block that. I dont get anywhere near the amount I used to get.
I find my block sender and bounce sender are both useless. I continue to get the same emails no matter how many times I block and bounce. Maybe it is my email program. However, I really like it and don't want to switch. I've never been able to import an address list, theother two times I've switched e-mail programs, that never works either, and the thought of re-entering all those addresses is daunting.

You can download a handy little software program, called Black Mamba, that allows you to preview your email subject and sender and size ON THE ISP SERVER (for those of you without online email), and delete SPAM without downloading it.
Of course you must set your email application so it does not download email automatically.
I've gotten no more than the usual I've always gotten.
When I forward an email to others, I always remove all the other email addys that came with it. If I leave anything at all, it's maybe the sender's first name only.
This link is one possible reason for some Spammy ones.
https://J-walk.com/other/conf/index.htm - I think that's it. It's for a Nigerian seminar on making money from emails. It's so funny - be sure to read all of it!
I seem to get alot of these, at least one or two per day.
