\nI read Arthur Clark as a kid. I loved science fiction.. but not the fantasy kind, but the kind that Arthur Clark wrote. The kind that when you finished the book, you would still think about it for days. He took you in a direction that you didn\'t expect and introduced you to new ways of thinking.

\nI think we are at the beginning of the space travel age, and I hope that what Arthur Clark envisions will happen... but I don\'t think that will be feasible until they find another way to leave a planet\'s gravitational field that isn\'t so fuel expensive (and like Clark said, we are no longer slaves to oil).

\nThe problem with space travel is they have to use so much fuel to even leave the earth\'s atmosphere.. which makes the rocket heavier and takes a tremendous amount of room. and even though they "drop" the fuel part after it is used, they still have to carry enough to go where ever they are going and come back.

\nI do believe that someday they will find another way.. but, with money being cut for the space program.. don\'t know if that will be in my lifetime.
