I just saw on the Dr. Oz show that the protective aprons that they lay across your chest for x-rays come with a smaller bib that's supposed to be fastened around your throat to protect your thyroid.
He said that these aprons come with this bib, and it should always be used. I never used one, or saw one at all.

Dam if Im gonna stay in the room and hold a screaming kid down during xray without protection and I dont care if they have to look all day for those throat bibs.

Not all x-ray aprons are equipped with one, the problem being thyroid protection can alter an x-ray image, and depending on the type of x-ray it can be a vital loss of information.
That's the argument they give women who want to use one during a mammogram.
