Wisdom tooth or TMJ?
Hi everyone. I've posted this before but this is just a follow up. Last summer of August 2010 I developed a painful tension feeling around my jaw area, the left side of the face mostly. I got a night guard on July 22nd 2011. I know that is extremely late but the problem is that we've been to so many doctors until we found out the problem. I have been using the nightguard for 13 weeks or so without improvement. I got a MRI of the brain - all normal, no trigimental nerve abnormality, sinuses are clear, arteries are fine. The jaw was okay too. But I recently got a X-ray of my mouth from the dentist who made the nightguard for me. The X-ray showed to his eyes that I have a big wisdom tooth under my gum. First off, I'm 13. I think it's a wisdom tooth because the fact that physical therapy hasn't helped whatsoever (electrical stimulation, ice/hot packs, range motion exercises, ultrasound etc. I don't have any clicking or popping, but the dentist that made me the nightguard and took the X-rays of my mouth, had his oral surgeon worker look at the X-rays of my mouth. He said that it wasn't my wisdom tooth as I am too young, and that I should continue physical therapy. The problem is my physical therapist is getting fed up by the fact that I am not responding to PT. I am taking Tylenol #3 (the strong one) and Aleve but only the tylenol can relieve it for some time. Should I get more X-rays of my wisdom tooth from other dentists or just continue physical therapy? Cause right now I am getting a lot of directions from many doctors as I don't know where the pain is coming from. The pain usually radiates all over my left side of my face
