I have a cedar block in my closet that\'s supposed to repel both moths and other insects, it can be refreshed with sandpaper when necessary, also smells good. There are products available like Cedarcide for bedbugs, fleas on pets, etc. I don\'t think bedbugs would be a problem in your closet on cleaned clothing, unless there was a couple of bugs that survived the cleaning, which I doubt. As mentioned, cedar blocks are a good choice. Lavender is another good choice. Small fabric bags used for wedding favors can be purchased from stores which sell wedding party items. (Walmart Super Centers carry these bags.) Dry lavender flowers can be placed in these bags to make a sachet. The bags have ribbons which can be pulled tight to seal them. To refresh the scent, just squeeze the bags to cause the flowers to release more scent. Plastic bags which cover items cleaned by a dry cleaning establishment are not sealed. It would be better to remove those bags and store the bedding in a large, sturdy plastic trash bag, tied shut. That will keep the items from getting dusty and keep moths and bugs out.\r\n \r\n <!-' + '- / message -' + '->\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n <!-' + '- message, attachments, sig -' + '->\r\n\r\n | \r\n

Some stores sell small cedar blocks for closets and drawers. As mentioned above, when the scent fades it can be renewed by sanding them a little bit. Some stores sell bags of cedar shaving for pet bedding. (It actually isn\'t a good bedding material for small pets, but it can be used as part of the stuffing for large dog beds.) Mothballs vs Pests in Bedding/Clothing
Hello, everybody.
I am presently making a big effort to reduce the clutter in my home. One action I am taking is to clean and store away bedding and clothing that has sat in my closet unused for a while. After I wash/dryclean some of the bed covers, comforters, etc. , I dont want any bugs to take up residence in them. I am now wondering what I can do to prevent this. If I leave the items in the plastic bags they are in from the drycleaners, would that be enough? Should I throw a couple mothballs into the bags? I am pretty sure the items wont be used for a couple years; I just want to put them away deep in my closet and forget about them. I dont know much about mothballs (are they even still available? My parents had some when I was little, but I havent seen or heard about them since then), so I have additional questions: Are mothballs an effective deterrent against moths only? Or do they also prevent other bugs from setting up residence in your stuff? For example, spiders, ants, bedbugs, etc. If not, any recommendations? Also, regarding bedbugs, would they even be a concern, since there is nothing for them in the back of the closet? (Wild guess here: would a clove of garlic be a good pest deterrent? It seems to be an often-recommended natural way of turning away so many other pests.) |
