Default Air Con disturbs sleep?

Hello All,

I'm currently living in the tropics where temperatures regularly hover around 30 degrees Celsius with high humidity.

I'm originally from Europe and have been staying in the tropics for nearly 6 months now and have put on the A/C on a night to sleep in cold conditions.

I noticed that I wasn't sleeping deep enough so I bought some Melatonin which did help somewhat but I found myself becoming groggy during the late mornings and afternoons. I couldn't understand why until the A/C started leaking and I stopped using it for 2 nights whilst the repair people came to service it.

I've been a completely different person these past few days. Is this all in my head or does the A/C disturb your sleeping ability killing deep sleep on a night and leaving you wasted during the day?

Thanks

Where do you live? I use to live on Bonaire and air conditioning was a must. As for sleep, no problems, but what I do notice with air conditioning is it my knees get a little tender after being in air conditioning for awhile.

Maybe the air conditioning is really dropping the humidity too much. I live outside Pittsburgh and in teh summer set the AC at 81. Too many people keep it at 70, that is wayyyyyyy too cold. Just raise the temp a degree and see if that makes a difference.

Effects of earplugs and eye masks on nocturnal sleep, melatonin and cortisol in a simulated intensive care unit environment.
You may want to try some earplugs as it's possible there is a low level of noise coming from the air conditioning that you are not aware of but is sufficient to prevent melatonin secretion.
You should also have this free software on your PC/LAPTOP.

I agree with Ted--earplugs. Both the A/C and heat coming on and going off can wake me.
