In the 70s, a doctor considered a maverick amongst his peers, told me that I was so far outside the norm by which most doctors view and practice medicine that most doctors were more likely to cause me harm than to be of any help to me. He advised me to take control of my health and well-being with as little medical intervention as possible. I followed his advice. I am secure in the knowledge that it was the best advice a doctor could have given me.
