Default Statin something...

British medical authorities are toying with the idea of prescribing statins to currently healthy people

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-18091708

Surely it would make more sense to encourage healthy eating and exercise?

Of course it would, but that is no way to go about selling a bunch of expensive pills.
Naturally if all those healthy people start taking these satins they will quite probably in short order develop all sorts of other ailments.
Ah, but not to worry as I'm sure they already have many other pills to fix any problems that they create.

What happened to the current influence to get people to take aspirin every day? Too cheap? Time to buy more company stock in pharmaceuticals.

Peter Attia has a good series on cholesterol in his War On Insulin blog
The Straight Dope on cholesterol
It's important to understand the whole science of cholesterol and the way too many particles damage artery walls. In the first of his blogs he links to various experts who have a good series of you tube videos. Some of those experts are actually commenting on the responses to his blog so it's important to read the comments as well as the actual articles.
Thomas Dayspring points out in one of these exchanges that in practice "statins fail to lower LDL-P to goal in upwards of 2/3 of patients." as it's the amount of particles that need lowering to reduce the potential for harm.
So most people taking statins only enjoy the side effects and none of the potential benefits.
If you are getting older it's worth knowing that each 1-mmol/L increase in total cholesterol was associated with an approximately 12% lower risk of noncardiovascular mortality
so if you're 65 and older and anyone tells you to lower your cholesterol then you can be sure they are suggesting you should leave this world sooner rather than later.

You're right there. Every pharmaceutical drug has at least one side effect. And the allopaths answer to that is to prescribe another drug to combat the ill effects of the first! A slippery slope...

Mind you, I'm inclined to think most people would rather continue eating their junk food and drinking too much alcohol and slobbing out in their armchair than eat a healthy diet and go for a jog in the park. I think they want a 'wonder' pill or jab that will allow them to continue their self-destructive lifestyles without, as they perceive it, the risks and that plays into the hands of Big Pharm.

I won't be buying any shares in the blighters, but I know what you mean.

Over here British herbal medicine has been hamstrung thanks to them (Big Pharm)... They've twice tried to derail the vitamins/minerals supplements market, no doubt they'll try again... Natural cancer therapists are hounded out of business... They want a medical monopoly.

They're concentrating on vaccines, which are hugely lucrative. The industry has made hundreds of millions out of the cervical cancer vaccine for example. Imagine the profits on a vaccine for breast or prostate cancer.

Seems most people feel like shit when they are on them. This one pharmacist told me anyone who goes on lipitor will usually have side effects sooner or later.

Have mim cut down, take half a dose for a week and then stop. Have him eat an apple a day (with the peel) and take a fish oil capsule.

I passed on this no nonsense recommendation. Let's see what he does with it.

First of all, the pectin fiber in the apples binds bile acids in the gut, making them unavailable for cholesterol production by the liver. Fish oil is antiinflammatory, which is more important.

Cholesterol is deposited where there is inflammation. Omega3 is an anti-inflammatory. Omega3 also improves blood platelet mobility. Krill oil is better than fish oil, because it contains both DHA and EPA and natural astaxanthin. Also, the krill pills are smaller. Some people have problems with pills. Psychological, I believe. My sister has a problem. Not as bad as my mother had. My mother could not take any pill no matter how small. She would have to make liquid first.
