Default Proposition 37 Fails - your right to know is withheld

Proposition 37 appears to have failed in California, but GMO labeling awareness achieves victory

Mike Adams

Proposition 37 appears to have failed at the ballot box in California, according to the California Secretary of State ballot measures results. The GMO labeling ballot measure, which would have required food companies to label the GM content of foods, was defeated with the use of over $45 million in fraudulent advertising and dirty tricks funded by Monsanto, PepsiCo, Coca-Cola, Kellogg, General Mills, DuPont, Bayer and other food and pesticide companies.

Over the last month, this cabal of deceptive companies has funneled money into a campaign of criminal fraud which, among other crimes, fabricated a fake FDA quote and sent out mailers that fraudulently used the FDA seal. A criminal complaint has already been filed with the FBI.
The No on 37″ campaign also used fabricated front groups and impersonated a police organization (among others) to send out yet more fake mailers to voters, claiming that the police oppose GMO labeling. That fraudulent claim, of course, is entirely false.

Huge victory in terms of GMO awareness and grassroots support
The grassroots effort to pass Proposition 37 was supported by the efforts of millions of activists, plus financial donations from Mercola, Natures Path, Amys, Dr. Bronner and other companies. Natural News donated $10,000 to the effort and provided comprehensive editorial coverage of the grassroots effort. Click here to see a chart of who gave money to the effort.
And click here to see some of the natural brands that betrayed consumers with the No on 37″ deception.
Those brands include Kashi, Silk, Cascadian Farm, Larabar and more.
  • A d v e r t i s e m e n t
In many ways, the YES on 37 campaign was a huge victory for awareness. The campaign organized over 10,000 volunteers in California alone and succeeded in achieving a massive social media presence.
The YES on 37 campaign also forced Monsanto and the biotech giants to spend $45 million to defeat the measure. Thats a record expenditure by the worlds largest toxic pesticide companies to try to prevent consumers from knowing what theyre buying. Remember: GMOs are the only products that consumers accidentally purchase without knowing what theyre buying.
Whats clear from all this is that GMO labeling has a foothold in the minds of American consumers, and this effort to label GMOs is going to be repeated state after state, year after year, until victory is achieved.
The biotech industry can no longer keep its dirty little secret: Theres poison in your food, folks, and the big food producers absolutely do not want you to know that youre eating it.
The GMO labeling battle has only just begun
Monsanto and other companies appear to have won this showdown in California, but they are going to lose the war of deception against consumers. As awareness of GMOs continues to spread, people will demand honest labeling in increasing numbers.
The huge burst of awareness on Prop 37 has a lot of people asking the questions: Hey, what are GMOs? And why arent they labeled on foods?
That question will ultimately spell defeat for Monsanto, Kellogg, General Mills, Coca-Cola, PepsiCo and all the other evil, deceptive corporations who bankrolled the No in 37″ criminal fraud that deceived a majority of California voters.

Hit 'em where it hurts. Time to boycott Kellogg, General Mills, Coca-Cola, PepsiCo and all the other evil, deceptive corporations who bankrolled the No in 37″ criminal fraud that deceived a majority of California voters.

Boycotting companies for such indiscretions does work. It worked to displace Glenn Beck, when so many people boycotted his sponsors. It worked in Connecticut in the 70s when women boycotted poor quality meat at the supermarket. Go for the bottom line - the purse.

1) Yep! My mommy told me, 'Vote with your dollars'.

2) That guy makes 32M a year with his own broadcast company and network. He's also had a #1 NY Times Best Seller that beat out Steven King, so I'm gonna have to call that a 'FAIL'.

Does go to show how well free market capitalism serves the consumer.

Proposition 37 appears to have failed
No surprise there, the biotech industry has WAY too much money and influence. They stopped GMO labeling in Vermont [The VT Right to Know Genetically Modified Food Act] by threatening a lawsuit. But eventually GMO labeling will become mandatory somewhere in the country, and the rest will follow like dominoes. Hopefully sooner rather then later...

Boycotting them is a great idea, but not enough people will do it to have any real effect - at least not yet. Everyone needs to start boycotting ALL processed and non-local foods, but that ain't gonna happen either.

High fructose corn syrup is GMO. I went to the store the other day and every single non-diet beverage in the beverage aisle had it except for Simply Orange Juice and Simply Lemonade. The diet beverages all had aspartame. Obviously, drink manufacturers don't believe health is a buying factor -- but all I bought that day was the Simply Lemonade.

Canola oil (rape seed) is nearly all genetically modified too. It's best to stick with coconut oil or extra virgin olive oil; however I've read some bad things about the manufacture of most olive oils. A search on this site will give some insight.

In the USA, corn and soybeans are nearly all genetically modified. It is very difficult to find genuinely organic.

There are millions of votes that haven't been counted yet, go figure. Do I understand correctly when it is up to the county to send in the totals or not? Something wrong with that senario..

All I know for sure is that the voting system is flawed, and that includes for elections as well. How is it that Radio Shack knows I bought a video splitter in 1978, and the bank knows immediately if I go into overdraft from anywhere in the world, and yet the voting system is allowing dead people to vote.

Yep. I agree. They really need a tracking system as good as a bank's if they are going to do it by computer.

In my state they still use a pencil and paper system that I felt very good about after I voted. No hanging chads, not Deibold computer manipulations or errors or hacking.

They're still laughing on their way to the bank.

Thanks for the providing the updates. I live in an area where we are at the whims of what the big giant corps put in our food. Why? Poor standard of living. It's a depressed area. Cheap food is bad food. It's a shame.

I am interested in seeing some of the commercials that perpetuated the false propaganda. Can anyone provide a link?

Wish I could boycott a company like General mills, but because we rely on WIC (woman in need of care, I think, it's based in NY so not sure how national it is - it helps families provide the staple foods for their children), we pretty much have to go with this company.

I had WIC with my first child. I was able to purchase wholesome food for the most part. There is always oatmeal and Quaker Oats is not part of general mills or kellog, at least it wasn't back then.
Cheap food is not always bad food. Whole unprocessed foods, grains, fresh veggies, is often the best buy.

I'll have to talk to my wife a little more on this. I think you're absolutely right.
