Default Just came back from a swim: calf cramp

I have not swam in a yr, except twice this past week and very short ones. Today, the pool was on the cooler side and I kept going, what stopped me was a cramp in my left calf coming on. Magnesium?

Magnesium oil relieves my cramps almost immediately. Some people try to walk them out, I just try to completely relax the leg and gently massage, when no oil is around.

I do have that mag oil, but for now, I will take a couple mag tablets. When the cramps come I stand on the foot to stretch it out and that helps also.

Yes. Standing and gently stretching seems to help. Anything to make it quick. Sometimes muscles don't like it when there is a sudden change in temperature. Nothing gives me a clue when such things happen. I can be sleeping, and wake with jumping out of bed to solve the cramp. I do wonder about magnesium and that something has depleted mine, but I do always supplement with extra magnesium each day, mostly for keeping the bowels in check. Maybe too much calcium?

I do not take calcium, but I do drink a cup of bone broth a couple times a week. That waking up in the middle of the night sucks, because once you solve the problem, your calf hurts for the next day

Ah yes, been there done that. OK I'm now wide awake bouncing around trying to convince the muscle to relax.
I haven't tried the magnesium oil I assume it is to rubbed on?

Yes, it's rubbed onto the area that's cramping. I had bad ones a couple of times on the bottom of my feet, when I was kneeling down cleaning low cabinets. The cramps were more painful than the ones in the legs, it worked quickly on both.

Magnesium oil = magnesium chloride and its use is transdermal. Works very well, but not fast enough for me when I'm cringing and hopping around.

It makes the skin itchy, that can be relieved by applying lotion after the cramp is gone. I've mixed it with massage cream, and used it on my back and shoulders, very nice.

Mag oil is sticky. When first applied there might be some tingling sensation. No problem if sticks to clothes. Some people use it as deodorant.

Sometimes you just have to slow down and say, "Hey, there's only one me." I need another me to do the dusting, my absolute UN-favorite domestic chore.

Was out this morning and picked up a bottle of magnesium oil, "mined from deep under the Zechstein Seabed in the Netherlands"!!!
So now I can hardly wait for my next leg cramp to try it out.
But I will try to manage somehow.
