Default Ayurveda, how effective is it?

Does anybody have enough experience with ayurveda to testify how effective it is compared to herbs used and discussed by people on these boards?

It is suppose to be fantastic for auto immune diseases and it works well for some other issues. You have to figure out your body type first and eat accordingly

I would be a more than a little concerned about using ayurvedic "medicine" as it has been discovered to be contaminated with serious toxins:

It seems there is a bit of a misunderstanding here.

Quote:
The Sanskrit words, ayu (“life) and veda “book/knowledge” (or, more recently, “science”), described a comprehensive system of medicine based on a holistic approach that was rooted in Vedic culture. The Vedic civilization is the Indo-Aryan culture associated with the Vedas, the earliest known records of Indian history. Mainstream scholarship places the Vedic civilization into the second and first millennia B.C., based upon alleged astronomical information in the texts. The use of Vedic Sanskrit continued up to the sixth century B.C., when the culture began transforming into classical forms of Hinduism. The word Veda not only means book, but it has often been called the book. It is a compendium of philosophical concepts that has been handed down over ten thousand years through the haze of the ages; and Ayurveda, which is translated as “the science of life,” became the traditional, natural healing system of medicine that was established five thousand years ago by the great Indian philosophers who developed India's original systems of health, meditation and Yoga. It is considered the world's oldest school of medicine and also includes a tradition of surgery. Two early texts of Ayurveda are the Charaka Samhita and the Sushruta Samhita.

Ayurvedic describes a system, theory or method. To throw out a system due to its name seems a little severe.

I agree with you Goat. Aryuvedic practice and its medicine has been used for thousands of years in the most populated country on Earth. Most populated is the key phrase here. And India is not only well populated, but is growing rapidly. Their medicine has not affected their potency, or their lifespan.

I do understand Chinook as well. We have no clear way to test an imported supplement for contamination. The same is true for Traditional Chinese Medicine supplements. We can only trust. That has to be an individual thing.

Right, no argument here. The point I'm trying to make is I can practice any herbal medicine regime with herbs organically grown in the US.

To associate 'Aryuvedic' with an impure herb is a non-sequiter.
