May I suggest that you eat food that needs to be chewed - otherwise you could end up with gum disease like many of my husband's vegetarian patients that he treated in England. Some of their gums were so inflamed that their teeth were very loose and had to be removed.

You may think that you can look after your teeth without going to see a dentist. However how do you know when you are getting tooth decay and gum disease? Both are like cancer - they do not cause any pain until the disease is well-advanced. My husband's philosphy is to treat when the problem is very small to prevent the inevitable major cost and pain later on.

Find a dentist who does not place mercury amalgam fillings and who practices 'minimally invasive dentistry' for the best results. By visiting your dentist every 6-12 months you can have healthy teeth for life and your beautiful smile will have the chance to lift people's spirits.

Cheers,
Helen
Hi Helen,

It's great that your husband is a holistic & preemptive dentist! You have brought forth a big question for me by bringing the issue of eating food that needs to be chewed. Can you give me some examples of the kind of foods you have in mind which will be appropriate for my situation?

Last week, I made a mistake of eating crunchy spicy broccoli from the left side of my jaws with full pressure. All night, the pain was unbearable and the next day the left side abscess resumed and lasted for a couple of days. Since then, everything has disappeared and no pain at all. Right now, I am prefering to eat only from the right side of my mouth, since my dentist was proposing the root canal on the left side.

I feel that I should use the left side of jaws the least and perhaps not even chew from that side and let that affected tooth completely heal. Would that be the right thing to do in your opinion? Can you please elaborate on the dental problems specific to vegetarians? I am intuitively inclined to offload my teeth by eating less solid/hard foods and have more energy shakes & juices. Do you agree with that approach?

Thank you for your advice about using minimally invasive dentists using holistic approach, like your husband!

Helen, if you husband is a dentist you should show him this page:
https://www.healthsalon.org/478/biomimetic-dentistry-ozone-dentistry-avoiding-root-canal-dr-alleman-dds/
This technique is starting to take hold in the US and I think all dentists should know about it. It not only prevents root canals but there is a filling technique designed to prevent infiltration of bacteria so the filling can last a whole lifetime.... and it does include the use of ozone gas to purify the substrate of the tooth as the filling is layered on.

Nature lover - you can start learning about how to use ozone on this page. It has many links:

I had 2 crowns placed 14 month ago on my teeth, one tooth needed a root canal, the other just broke, so the dentist crowned it, no root canal and over the past week I have had a pain in the crowned live tooth. I rinsed with an antibacterial rinse and used an herbal toothpaste, but the sensitivity is INSIDE the crown. I had some bactrim tablets at home and took 2 this morning and 2 1/2 hr ago. God, I hate the dentist!

So, would it be safe to say that the Ozone Dentistry is one of the alternatives to root canal? Does the procedure involve any invasiveness at all? What do you think the entire procedure would approximately cost per tooth or per treatment? Have you had this therapy done yourself and what are the pros and cons of the procedure?

Yes, let me research & study all your Ozone Therapy links before taking further steps. Once again, thanks for your powerful links on Ozone Dentistry!

Hi saved1986, what are bactrim tablets and what are they used for? Are you using MMS as the antibacterial rinse?

Eating yogurt (as opposed to milk), avoiding sugar, brushing with Xylitol based toothpaste with no fluoride, taking liqui-kelp Iodine (for Fluoride removal), and now starting the MMS regimen is already doing wonders for me! My final step would probably be the Ozone Dentistry to entirely avoid the root canal. My teeth are very happy with me to save them from the drilling torture!

Thanks to Arrowwind09, BigAl, Helen, and others for their valuable advice and experiential ideas so far to help me start making a great progress! Thanks to Kevin (Admin) to allow us to freely express our views and experiences to help each other on this forum!

Question

I am still pondering over one big question about my teeth requiring root canal and any thoughts and ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Do affected teeth get stronger in long run by eating softer foods or do they get stronger by eating harder foods? May be, we should just eat the foods, which our teeth can comfortably handle! Helen mentioned that one needs to eat lots of chewable foods; what would be the ideal chewable foods to preserve the dental health?

Okay. What is this "mms"? Where can that and ozone be availed? I am a "victim" of childhood fear due to 8 root canals-- and I'll be darned if I didn't lose the teeth anyway!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks.
