Two of the best remedies, that I know, are weight-loss and improved physical fitness.
This doesn't work for everyone but it does work for a good percentage of sleep apnea sufferers.
BTW, even if your wife is just slightly overweight, this can still be a factor. I'm not only referring to clinically obese individuals.
There are also certain pillows and mouth pieces that can be helpful. They adjust position of the jaw, while sleeping, so that it allows for a better flow of air. A Google search will present you with several options.
