Ted, you need to visit the states. Everything is processed food and the joke is when you go to wal marts and see the ultra obese hill jacks, their carts are always loaded with sodas, potato chips, snack cakes, microwavable dinners etc

It's not that different in the UK.
I'm continually shocked by the idea that people pay for ready made mashed potatoes, ready made porridge and aren't capable of making pancakes even without a mix or buying them ready made. We can even buy shelled hard boiled eggs.
Part of the trouble is that families are so busy working and then rushing about organizing activities for the kids because kids no longer are able to amuse themselves and aren't allowed to play outside with other kids that there are time constraints on sitting down to eat a meal with the rest of the family.

I always make pancakes out of scratch. In the states you can bu these plastic wrapped potatoes for microwaving. I am a cook extrordinaire (if you like mediterranean cooking), basically everything goes in a casserole dish with olive oil and garlic and gets slow cooked.

The thing about cooking real food is that every time you do a dish it turns out slightly differently. (even when I think I'm following the same recipe).
Ready prepared meals are so predictable.
When we were away on holiday we used up some vouchers for a UK Pizza Chain the first couple of Pizza's were fine but even though the restaurants were different the food was so predictable it became boring and it will be a long time before I try them again.
