Fantastic info, especially the water and the elderly. I do force my parents to drink some water through the day.

I believe that most Americans are dehydrated most of the time. I heartily concur that water is essential to our well-being. I have asthma. I have found that one or two glasses of water will stop an attack. A simple pinch and twist of one's skin will show whether water is lacking in the body. If the skin does not immediately snap back into place that means you are dehydrated.

or it means that your subcutaneous fat supplies are depleted which is common to elderly and has absolutely nothing to do with how much water they drink. It takes fat cells to hold water. Underlaying nutrional issues may be at play or merely the genetic changes of aging.

I do not believe that we should be drinking 2 liters of water a day personally. It is not part of the paleo diet. and water will disrupt proper digestion when taken with or even too close to meals.

Too much water can deplete electrolytes like sodium, potassium and magnesium. If you're going to drink a lot of water for an extended period of time, be careful.

The levels of potassium, sodium, magnesium, etc. get too low which can be dangerous, especially in the case of potassium if you drink too much water..

Some people have more or less need for different amounts of water so I'm not sure what is the best for you. If you exercise or sweat you will need more. 8-10 glasses of 8 ounces each is just a guideline and some question if it's right.

A lot of people don't drink enough water so that's partly the reason it's given attention, and partly because some can use the water cure to help with a specific disease or problem.

The suggestion for the water cure is to put salt in the water if you're drinking a lot of water. A good quality sea salt, not ordinary table salt, will supply sodium and several minerals. If you eat a lot of processed food that's high in salt you may not need salt, but then you shouldn't be eating a lot of processed food.
