Default Avocado pit nutritious

https://www.livestrong.com/article/25...-avocado-seed/

Ever eat avocado pit? It is so big and seems such a waste to throw it away. We love avocados and eat Haas daily. It's Chile avocado season now.

I love guacamole and avocados. My old college roomate lived in san diego and then moved to phoenix and was saying one: what is that green junk the califonians eat called again. Personally, I love it.

Wow! That's a lot of benefits. Thanks for the find.

I suppose they mean to break the seed open to get to the meat, Right? Or is the seed the whole thing? I've never looked at it closely enough, or even tried to plant it.

Ozzie, in the states avocados can cost anywhere between 1 dollar to 3 dollars a piece. How about down under?

I wish there were more articles and studies showing the avocado pit to be part of a nutrient dense diet. Apparently it's bitter but bitter is good for bile stimulation such as jfh's beloved digestive bitters.

If I could find proof that the pit has been eaten for centuries then I would feel more comfortable pulverizing one in my vita mix.

Jfh, the pit is hard, not like a rock but hard enough that you'll need to pulverize it in a blender. I imagine a smoothie with apple will cover up the bitter flavor.

I absolutely love avocado. I didn't know that eating the pit is nutritious also but it doesn't surprise me.

I was feeding my dogs Avoderm, and one of my dogs started having seizures. It might not have been related (and I'm sure it wasn't), but then I started reading about how if some of the pit was in the food, it was poisonous for pets. I discontinued using this brand of dog food. Avoderm touts using avocados for health and they say no pits are involved.

Thumbs up

I love avocados & usually eat at least a half of one daily, usually as part of a salad. The pit is so hard,
that I don't think I'll try to crack & eat it.
I have planted the pits before ...it grows a lovely vine.

In the raw food community they'll pulverize the pits in a blender. I've never seen a recipe for it cooked.

I've read the pit can be poisonous to animals. I've also heard tomatoes and chocolate aren't good for our furry friends either.

A vine? Avocados grow on trees!

My wife's familly eats alvacados every dinner. It's part of their culture, which is probably the only healthy thing they consume that's healthy and it's not because they think it's healthy. I'll have to tell them about the seeds as they throw it out

Awesome! I try and eat the seeds of everything--I love prune/plum seeds, but I never thought to eat an avocado seed/pit/stone--it seems like a rock! I'll have to try cracking it open. Do I need a hammer?
