"The project’s hypothesis is that maintaining whole body sufficiency of iodine requires 12.5 mg a day, an amount similar to what the Japanese consume. The conventional view is that the body contains 25–50 mg of iodine, of which 70–80 percent resides in the thyroid gland. Dr. Abraham concluded that whole body sufficiency exists when a person excretes 90 percent of the iodine ingested. He devised an iodine-loading test where one takes 50 mg and measures the amount excreted in the urine over the next 24 hours. He found that the vast majority of people retain a substantial amount of the 50 mg dose. Many require 50 mg a day for several months before they will excrete 90 percent of it. His studies indicate that, given a sufficient amount, the body will retain much more iodine than originally thought, 1,500 mg, with only 3 percent of that amount held in the thyroid gland.

More than 4,000 patients in this project take iodine in daily doses ranging from 12.5 to 50 mg, and in those with diabetes, up to 100 mg a day. These investigators have found that iodine does indeed reverse fibrocystic disease; their diabetic patients require less insulin; hypothyroid patients, less thyroid medication; symptoms of fibromyalgia resolve, and patients with migraine headaches stop having them. To paraphrase Dr. Szent-Gyrgi, these investigators aren’t sure how iodine does it, but it does something good."

Default Iodine

I've been using GLN's Detoxified Iodine - www.globallight.net for well over a year now.
Having gone to my Doc for bloodwork 2 weeks ago, my results on my thyroid test
came back great - both my Doc and I are very pleased. I had trouble finding Lugol's
Iodine. GLN's Detoxified Iodine comes in small 1oz dark dropper bottles; I order 6 at
a time. I take about 10 drops every morning in 2 oz of pure water. I forget the price
per bottle, but it's reasonable. Occasionally GLN has sales on it too.
I am a Diabetic who didn't want to take Levoxyl or Synthroid for thyroid treatment.

Nephropal on iodine

Dr Davis on iodine

Stephan Whole Health Source on Iodine

as a result of reading the above sources I've started using iodised salt.15p pack from the uk cheapo supermarket Lidl's.

Kelp powder pretty nearly 2yrs supply for peanuts from IHERB I ve found it very easy to add to meals as seasoning that no one notices.

Iosol again a drop of this in your tea really doesn't make any difference and more than corrects any potential insufficiency situation.

Anyone wanting to use those IHERB links can save$5 with code WAB666. If your from the UK never spend more than 18 (or it's $equivalent) at Iherb or you get caught for customs VAT + Post Office handling charge 8

It's more than likely that 30% of the UK population are iodine deficient given the cost of ensuring you are not deficient is so ridiculously trivial it's simple common sense to make sure you have access to a reasonable supply.

You can purchase Lugol's Iodine here. You want the 5% solution. Not sure what you would use the 2% solution for. All the studies done with Lugols were in 5% solution. Perhaps 2% for topical applications on an open wound.

I really do not understand why people so complicated their lives, trying to use the preparations are not intended for consumption . The Iodine is a poison, the only case I remember that Iodine was oral using , that was after the nuclear catastrophe in Czarnobyl , but It was emergency situation . Normally the Iodine is an antiseptic preparation for external use . I am using 100% natural , made with herbs , preparation . There is no risk of overdose and is working for me perfectly .

Here's a whole bunch of reasons Steven.

Moderate iodine deficiency was associated with a 4.26 times higher risk of low IQ. Perhaps that explains why you don't understand.

Steven, if you have no diseases from iodine deficiency then an herbal product if probably fine for you. It may also be good for those with actual iodine deficiency problems but there have not been any tests done to my knowledge. Lugols iodine has had a lot of testing done and has proved itself out in my own health care and that of my family and for many others.

For iron deficiency I always recommend an herbal product for its absorbency
and lack of side effects and it has proven out for me in clinical settings. It could very well be so with iodine herbals also.

On the other hand I have seen no evidence of lugols being toxic.

Please tell us what you use and what it has done for you.

Kelp alone is not a sufficient source of natural iodine.
The iodine you say is for antiseptic use is called Iodine Tincture
and should never be ingested orally.

Anyway ...this is my supplement of diet. I am using it for three years and it has done for me a lot . Natural iodine is there also : see at Bladderwrack - Fucus vesiculosus .
The key is in the diversity of components ,26 extracts of herbs that is something .

Question

And you've had your thyroid gland/levels tested to make sure that
you are NOT Iodine deficient? What were your Iodine levels previously?
