I read the article and several others just like it and must say this is not entirely true.
The antioxidants found in carotenoids trap free radicals, thus preventing damage to cells, and that is good, however, the nutrients found within these fruits and vegetables, or more specifically the minerals, totally depends upon the soil in which it is grown.
Minerals in the soil are not evenly distributed, therefore it is impossible to tell how many minerals are in a carrot just by looking at it. It may look good and contain only a few minerals or it may not look so good and contain all 60 minerals, and it is the minerals that protect from breast cancer.
There are two points here. First, you can't depend on the soil for your minerals so you must supplement with all 60, and second, without mineral co-factors, vitamins don't work properly.
Greenhouse vegetables are generally grown in a mixture of peat moss and soil. The resulting veggies look great but are nearly void in minerals.
