Default An Ex-Pat's Experience of Mexican Health System

Americans tend to think that medical care in Mexico is primitive, probably involving chanting and the burning of feathers, and suffers from filth, ignorance, and reuse of needles. The following is a list of medical experiences of which I am personally aware, that is, of my family and friends. It is not cherry-picked: There are no horror stories that I leave out.

I have written several times about how good my experience was in a Mexican hospital last year. I paid them $200 to figure out my problem. IN the Us between insurance and out of pocket I paid near to $1000, ending up with one doc shrugging his shoulders as he couldn't figure it out and another doc telling me that he could not treat me because my insurance would not cover his costs... and he wasn't sure if it would help anyway. This all required for me 4 trips of 100 miles to the city to figure absolutley nothing out. They wouldnt even help with pain. .. maybe they thought I was a drug addict in the making?

Several hours in the hospital in Mazatlan, which was clean, modern and bilingual got me on the right track. Sonogram there was $40, in the USA $400.

This year when we go my husband will have his skin taken care of.

Maybe Mexico would be a good place for EV367, the single parent with 2 dependant children who is going blind because he cant afford a cataract operation to check out.

Sounds like a good place to be if you are not well.
Obviously they treat humans as human beings and not just a cash cow's

Friend of mine's dad died in Mexico on a cruise. Was Cozumel and her dad had a heart attack. She said the care he received at the hospital there was phenomenol, much better than the US.

Fred Reed is a hoot. Fred should be required reading for anyone who plans on enlisting in the Armed Services.
