How do I tell if my insurance will support the natural, naturopathic, homeopathic paradigm?
I finally got enough tenure at my current job to enroll in their health care plan. The provider is Anthem Blue Cross. The plan is only $33.42 a month(minus dental and vision) or $7.71 a week, so maybe I am just being too worried. But, I still don't want to even pay that if I cannot receive the type of medical treatments I would want, and would rather continue avoiding all doctors. How do I find out if I will receive coverage for something besides the sadly well covered allopathic chicanery of: drugs - drugs - continue bad lifestyle - surgery - drugs - another surgery? Is there a way to discern if I would be covered for naturopathic, alternative, homeopathic and preventative treatments(like Vitamin C injections) before actually joining the plan?
All policies are required to state exactly what they cover and many will also state what they don't cover. Ask to see the policy informaiton. If they dont have get get the plan number for your place of work and call the insurance company and ask them, call them up. They need to know the plan number your company is using because one insurance company can have a number of plans.
I called Anthem and asked them if they support Naturopaths or Homeopaths and they said no. But they do support internal medicine.
My deadline to sign is coming up tomorrow, still don' t know if I should opt in. What do you guys think or do regarding insurance? Do you get coverage for alternative treatments?

I have Kaiser insurance, which I had through my work and cobra, now I pay on my own. I rarely visit the doctor, and basically have it for emergency surgery, serious car accidents, emergency room situations, and things like that.

Hmmmm....if you're not currently into the "system" and not relying on a drug to mask a symptom of a disease you possess and assuming you can sign up next year if you decide to I would save my $33 and spend it on some powerhouse vitamin/mineral or health promoting product each month.

For sure, for sure...
If you get hit by a bus crossing the street and have to go to emergency, the $33 a month will be cheaper than the hospital bill!
I do not have insurance. The last time I did they did me no good service and I ended up paying out of pocket anyway.
This is a highly personal choice and I hesitate to advise anyone. Have you looked at the high deducticible options that will cover serious stuff like auto accidents?
You should know already what kind of medical treatments you may want.. if you are willing for sugery, chemo, radiation then insurance is a must. One in two men will get some kind of cancer. If your going to do Gerson therapy I wouldn't bother.
Mexico offers lots of options for screening and tests. For some people its cost effective go to there for their sonograms, MRI and CT scans and lab work for diagnositc purposes. Sonogram in the USA = $400, in Mexico $40.
Thanks to those who replied. Based on your experiences and advice, I adopted for the least expensive Choice program, not the more expensive Choice Plus.
These will be my monthly costs:
Medical, FedEx Choice - Anthem Employee Only $5.47
Premier Vision Employee Only $1.95
Total Cost $7.42
The vision includes one eye exam and one per of glasses per calendar year(up to $50 wholesale or $100-130 retail), so it is definitely cost effective.
Per week for the medical it breaks down to $1.26, you cannot even get a cup of coffee for that, so I figure it is better to be covered on some level at that price. As I am in network, I can also at least explore options, though if I do use it, I will face a big facepalm moment as I could have saved alot more by paying into the more costly $33 Choice Plus program.
If you got hit by a bus crossing the street, you'd get a free lawyer who'd take your case on contingency.....but that wouldn't even be necessary because the bus driver would likely be a city or county employee and they have tons of insurance coverage.
As always, look before crossing the street. While you may have missed it, the whole question pre-supposes that you're in the habit of not even paying attention.
