Default The Future of Healthcare?

Gary North thinks the FDA shackles will eventually be forced off alternative treatments.

I doubt it. We will lose more rights as time goes on and be forced to use allopathic treatments. they already have a mental illness declared for people who refuse treatments

The supplement industry has enjoyed a long period of undeserved “hands-off” treatment essentially devoid of governmental oversight ever since the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA). There is absolutely no requirement for either the assessment of safety or measure of effectiveness in this act. By the way, the DSHEA is a congressional act that had its roots in political influence, not medical science or patient health and safety objectives.

Fairly recently, the FDA has updated guidance documentation for the dietary supplement industry:

https://www.fda.gov/Food/GuidanceComplianceRegulatoryInformation/GuidanceDocuments/SmallBusinessesSmallEntityComplianceGuides/ucm238182.htm

You speak of “rights” but is that in disregard for the health and safety of those who may use these dietary supplements? Isn’t the ingredient integrity and purity of the product important too? The FDA “Current Good Manufacturing Practice” (CGMP) guidelines ensure a high quality product for the consumer, nothing more and nothing less. Isn’t this a good thing?

Yes this is very important and way too important assume that the FDA will insure its quality. Because way too often we have seen that the FDA is nothing more then an obedient puppet for the drug companies. Basing approval of a drug solely on the testing that the drug companies have provided.

Many dietary supplements have been around for decades and thus their effectiveness or lack thereof has already been proven. Yet the drug companies feel threatened by these typically lower cost alternatives to their high priced products which may or may not work as well and usually come with serious side-effects. So all they are attempting to do is regulate their competition out of existence by calling for product testing that small companies cannot afford. While self-righteously claiming that they are only concerned about our safely.
