Default Vitamin A

Hey guys,

im from austria so my english is not that good but ill try

i take vitamin a as an supplement with 10.000 IE . if i take it every day its 70.000 IE in a week, which is very much.

so i was thinking if its possible just to take this 3 times a week, does the body save the vitamin a for the next day? so do i get the next day also something of it?

i hope you understand it

Vit A is fat soluble and 3 times a week is fine. You need a large amount to overdose though. 10,000 IU daily is no problem. Also, even the water soluble ones are stored, Vitamin C (small amounts) is stored for months. The problem with A, E, K and D is they are stored to a much larger extent and build up, but there are less than 10 cases a yr of people in the US having Vit A toxicity.

Hello Delu. Yes, 10,000 IE (or IU as we call it in the English speaking world) is a high dose. That's 3,000mcg...
As Saved said, vitamin A is fat soluble and it can be toxic at certain levels, though this is not a great problem.

Plus, vitamin A - as other nutrients - works in the body in a complex i.e. it requires other vitamins, minerals & antioxidants to function properly. So eating vitamin A rich foods might be a better bet for you.

But the question is WHY are you taking this amount of vitamin A ? Have you been diagnosed with a specific ailment, or you are self-medicating?

Dr Weil says 10,000 IU a day is Ok and I believe him on this one.. Most vitamins have between 5,000 and 10,000 for a daily dose.

If you are concerned take 5,000 in A and 5,000 in beta carotine, which is considered the safest application as your body will convert the beta carotine as needed.

I've never trusted too much vitamin A. No more that a few thousand per day. I would take a much larger quantity of beta carotene. That is considered a pro-vitamin A. Meaning that it will convert to vitamin A however much the body can use, then the body will get rid of the rest. There will be no build up.

I have always wanted to be in Austria for New Year's Eve. It is on my wish list.
