Some doctors evaluate vitamin levels... just depends on their medical persuasion. Having electrolytes evaluated is common and it is routinely done as well as to check calcium is quite common. Calcium is a dangerous supplement for elderly to take unless their serum calcium levels are low, then they must take it.
Calcium needs to be supplemented with vitamin D3, K2, C and trace minerals for it to be safely taken over a period of time. It can cause hardening of the arteries if the other things are not there to direct it to where it needs to go. Since many elderly already have a calcium issue in their vessels it should be known if such a problem is present.
I would have littel faith in most medical docs to do the vitamin protocols correctly.. although Im sure some know how. Vitamins wont be worth much unless the patients digestive capacites are up to par.
