Lightbulb SCI in motion

T12 injury happened 5 months ago. I'm walking using a cane and AFO. All my docs say the same thing that it will just take time PT 3days/wk, Acupuncture once/wk, massage therapy once/wk, cardio everyday, etc..etc..
Anyone else been in this situation??

You need to let the bone heal. When it is fully mended it is time for comprehensive physical therapy to streghten your core muscles. Your doctor should be able to tell you when you are ready. You may do well with decompression therapy... some doctors provide this but it can also be found through chiropractors and physical therapists. It was greatly helpful when I hurt my lower back a few years ago. I received it through physical therapy. They have a number of ways to decompress the spine. Surely walking with a cane will not help to restore balance and it could compound the issue over time so you will have to work on it.

Compression of the nerves from swelling or misalignment may be causing your bowel and bladder issues. I would be very hopeful for restoration if there is even minimal function. Decompression may help with this but so can chiropractic. I met a woman once who had been on a urinary catheter for over 5 years from an accident causing some kind of spine injury. Finally she went to a chiropractor and now the catheter is gone and she is fully well and this came about after about 3 months of treatment... She said the improvement was gradual. .. all these problems due to compression of the nerves, that the chiropractor restored and the medical doctor ignored.

I would also recommend massive dosages of injectible vitamin B12. This was of great help to me also after my fall. I had sciatica pain due likely to issues with my paris formis muscle. The B12 eliminated the pain in about 1 week, after months of physical therapy and chiropractic that did nothing for the sciatica. It is excellent for helping to heal damaged and inflammed nerves. You may also want to look at the herb called bacopa. There is a good book about megadosages of B12 found on Amazon,,, written by a nurse.. If you do a forum tag search for B12 you will find thread that can direct you to a high powered B12 you can purchase yourself. Its what I used and it is commonly recommended by doctors in Mexico. Even if your doc is unaware of this they may not be adverse to trying... or just get it yourself if you come to think it might be of benefit.

My cord was swollen and bruised, T12 vertebrae fractured...EMG showed all nerves are intact, they are in the process of regenerating - which i understand can take some time. My bones are healed so I've been doing PT for 3 months and continuing.
When I'm home and in most places indoors, i don't use the cane. My right leg is more affected...unable to move ankle/toes.
I was told by my neurosurgeon and neurologist that seeing a chiropractor would be a waste of time/money.
how much b12 is too much??
