Default Not sure what this is

I have an arm injury, but not sure if it's a pulled ligament, tendon or muscle. I cannot lift my arm up very far, it hurts on the outside, between the elbow and shoulder, not under the arm, it also hurts to put my arm behind my back, I have had this for nearly a year now. I was standing opposite someone, holding their hand, and they unexpectedly shook my hand down.

Can anybody help as to what to do to help to cure it. I thought it would gradually get better, but it hasn't.

anise,it could be frozen shoulder,it can come on quite unexpectedly, I have it and have had physio on it but it didn't really help much as I only had a couple of treatments, mine is starting to thaw now annd is gradually getting better, I have had mine a couple of years.
Apparently Diabetics are prone to getting frozen shoulder.
A good qualified Bowen practioner can help with frozen shoulder, if thats what it is.

Thank you so much for your replies. I have always thought it is a torn tendon/muscle, as the pain is down the arm between the shoulder and elbow, on the top side of the arm. I can pull with the arm, bend the hand to the shoulder, also carry bags etc., with no pain, it is when I lift my arm up and out from my side or bend behind my back it very painful. I will google about a torn rotator cup, as not heard of that. Would physio be the best action, will look at the Bowen treatment. My shoulder doesn't hurt at all, I can move it around. Anise

Pinballdoctor, had a look at the position of the shouldercuff, and as my shoulder doesn't hurt and I can move it around I am not sure.

Ozzie, the Bowen looks very interesting, whatever the injury is. I don't have diabetes.

If it's a torn tendon as Saved 1986 suggests, what is the best course of action, Physio? or should I see a Dr.

Once again many thanks for your kind replies, much appreciated. Anise.

If its a partial tear, it can take a yr to heal (with resting it).

I would try serrapeptase for it for at least 3 weeks. If some improvement is noted continue till healed. We have a thread on that topic right now

Have read this, and will order some and will let you know if there is any improvement. Do you know anyone who has used it with good results?

The injury is about a year old, and I can lay on the arm in bed now without so much pain, although still fairly uncomfortable. Anise.

I have an appt. with my homeopath, who I have been seeing once a month for other things, she is going to use a machine on my arm, she did it for a couple of minutes on my last visit, and it went smoothly across my skin on my forearm, but, when she ran it on my upper arm it dragged along my skin, so it picked up the injury, she is giving me half an hours treatment with it tomorrow. I don't know what the machine is, but it not a Tens machine.
