Aromatherapy Remedies
Aromatherapy can clear sinusitis by combating infection, opening up
nasal passages, reducing congestion and relieving pain. Essential
oils such as Cedarwood, Eucalyptus, Ginger, Lavender, Marjoram,
Peppermint, Pine, Rosemary, Sandalwood, Tea Tree and Thyme are all
beneficial for this condition. Cedarwood: is an excellent choice for
treating respiratory problems. As an expectorant, it helps to
dislodge and expel mucus, decreases congestion. As an antiseptic, it
fights infection.
Eucalyptus: fights bacterial and vrial infections. This oil
stimulated regeneration of lung tissue. It increases blood oxygen
supplies allowing more oxygen as well as nutrients to be delivered to
the cells throughout the body.
Ginger: stimulates the immune system. It warms the chill from winter
and dampness, cools the body by inducing sweating, reduces the
drainage of a runny nose and helps with respiratory infection.
Lavender: clears congestion, stuffiness and soothes respiratory and
throat disorders and boosts the immunity.
Marjoram: eases respiratory disorders such as asthma, bronchitis,
colds and flu and sinusitis.
Peppermint: clears sinuses and improves breathing.
Pine: fights respiratory infections and encourages the release of
mucus. This oil relieves congestion and makes breathing easier.
Rosemary: helps relieve respiratory disorders, fights infection,
expels phlegm and assists in lymph drainage.
Tea Tree: a cousin to eucalyptus, this oil relieve respiratory
disorders, fights bacteria, viruses and fungi and has a reputation of
improving immunity.
Thyme: improves immunity by boosting the production of white blood
cells. This oil is great for respiratory disorders.

So, if I want to use a few of those, is it ok to just mix them all in, together?
thanks
I just bought my first humidifier a few days ago, and don't have personal experience with using the oils. I would think that since they're not being ingested, and used for breathing therapy, mixing them would not be an issue.
I find eucalyptus oil is good, if I'm coming down with a cold I juts put a dab under my nostrils, a few times a day and sniff, and I find it helps clear away a cold, but it would be better in a humidifier for a child.
"Century after century, bubonic plague outbreaks decimated the population of Asia and Europe for the better part of a thousand years. Out of this period emerged a legend of four thieves who were captured and charged with robbing the dead and dying victims. When the thieves were tried, the magistrate offered leniency if they would reveal how they resisted contracting the infection as they performed their gruesome acts. They told of a special concoction of aromatic herbs, including garlic, cloves and rosemary, that they rubbed on themselves before committing their crimes."
Wow, that is an awesome story. The only thing is, if they mentioned garlic, I'm sure that played a big part in killing the bacteria as well. And I don't see that in the mix. Would garlic oil be too potent for aromatherapy?
I agree with Arrow, theives oil is awesome!!! I forgot about that...will make some up this week!!!
I would also consider using vinegar in your humidifier (is that basically the same as the old fashioned vaporizer?) Vinegar seems to unclog and helps kill bacteria...somewhere I copied a post from someone who talked about when the sars outbreak happened in china a few years back, those who worked in the vinegar factory for the most part didnt get sick, and those who did, got such a mild case of the sars that none of them died.... Vinegar is high on my list of sickness cures!!!
As a side note, Arrow, last winter, I was putting the theives oil in my laudry detergent

Interesting; and todays vaporizers work by an ultrasonic transducer that micronizes water particles which eveaporate (as well as anything dissolved in the water, so a couple drops of vinegar should not be an issue to the vaporizer.
I personally use Melaleuca Oil in a vaporizer. It not only soothes and relieves my soar throat and congested chest, but the smell of Melaleuca oil is amazing, great aroma therapy.
