When digestive bitters contact the bitter receptors on the back of the tongue the vagus nerve is stimulated. This raises stomach acid, bile and pancreatic enzymes. If you use digestive bitters, you don't have to use much. You only have to taste them. The bottles normally say to take a dropper full. Half of that will work. Drink lots of water during the day to flush toxins, when using bitters.

Stimulation of the vagus nerve also stimulates flushing of the liver and slightly stimulates the intestines; mostly due to the bile production.

Flushing the liver in this manner is a good first step; or maybe the last step. It is gentle and can work immediately. If you are over 40, it would be good to take bitters with every meal; or at least the largest one. As we age, we produce less stomach acid. This affects digestion, in which the liver is instrumental.

I agree with Saved that Milk Thistle is the best. Also Dandelion Extract, Natural Vitamin E and MSM (Methylsulphonylmethane) are also beneficial for the liver.
