Default Waking Up With Acid Reflux?

Is it possible to wake up and have really bad acid reflux?

When I woke up this morning I had some really bad stomach pains. It felt like acid reflux/heart burn.

I ate half a grilled fish poorboy and part of a cheeseburger last night around 7pm. I woke up this morning with really bad pains in my stomach. More towards the top of my stomach.

Feels like burning. I ate some cream of wheat, and it seemed to help a little, but now its back pretty good again.

Sounds like classic indigestion to me...and what you ate sounds just like the kind of thing that could cause it.

Take some tums.

Well maybe not Tums.

Active Ingredients: Calcium Carbonate USP (500 mg) (Antacid)

Inactive Ingredients: Sucrose, Calcium Carbonate, Corn Starch, Talc, Mineral Oil, Natural & Artificial Flavors, Adipic Acid, Sodium Polyphosphate, Red 40 Lake, Yellow 6 Lake, FD&C Yellow 5 Lake (Tartrazine), Blue 1 Lake

Does TUMS contain gluten?
Although we do not use gluten as a filler in TUMS, there may be trace amounts of gluten in the tablets via ingredients that are supplied by outside vendors. [They don't know what their outside vendors supply?]

Does TUMS contain animal derivatives?
TUMS Cocoa & Crme, TUMS Tropical Fruit and TUMS Assorted Berries may contain animal derived ingredients. [What???]

Does TUMS contain aluminum?
GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare does not add aluminum during the manufacturing process of the TUMS Tablets but one of the raw materials used in TUMS does contain negligible amounts of aluminum, measured as parts per million (ppm), ranging approximately from 100 to 500 ppm.

Try baking soda instead. Arm & Hammer claim that their baking soda does not contain aluminum.

I'm at work, here at school, I'm a teacher. I went to the nurse, she gave me some antiacid tablets. It seemed to help after a while. I'm feeling better now. 1st and 2nd periods were tough.

She had mentioned that sometimes frequent acid reflux can lead to stomach cancer. I have had stomach and intestinal problems in Oct. 15, and then again in Nov. 15. I posted here about it. And now this. Although, this one might have been a little different...it seemed to be just acid reflux.

Should I be concerned?
Also, next time this happens, will baking soda and water be just as good as an antacid tablet? I wanna get some non-aluminum baking soda...its somewhat cheap on amazon.

I take vitamineral green, almost daily to try to help alkaline my body.
I've heard a spoonful of honey before bed helps to keep acid reflux at bay. Or a spoonful of apple cider vinegar before a meal (but that stuff is really gross).

A couple years ago I had pizza and beer and some dessert. I normally don't eat those things very often, especially not all together. A few hours later I had really bad pains in my stomach, as bad as labor pains. It hurt so much I couldn't move to take anything or do anything for it and I was alone. No fun.

this article suggest that acid reflux is actually caused by too little acid in the stomach, not too much.

Has anyone heard of this?

Neutralizing your stomach acid. The food just sits and ferments instead of digesting. Also, mineral nutrients will not get absorbed.

So, taking the vitamineral green will alkaline your stomach acids. But alkaline foods are good, correct? Other than that, i don't eat alot of alkalizing food.

What helps build up stomach acid if you are too low?

Zinc and vitamin B will help rebuild stomach acid. However for them to work, there must be stomach acid available. So for goodness sake, don't take that alkalizing drink while supplementing with the zinc and vitamin B. Actually don't take it around any type of food.

Many vegetables are alkalizing, but they bring in their own enzymes to help in the digestive process.

the wierd thing is, I didn't take it yesterday. I had skipped it. But from now on, maybe I'll take it AFTER I eat dinner? Or maybe AFTER I eat breakfast?

Yes. I recall reading an article by Dr. Whitaker in which he talked about using this reverse treatment for acid indigestion.

Some people use apple cider in a little water before or during their meals to help assist digestion. It never worked for me though.

Yes. You can test it by taking Betaine HCL tablets. If one tablet causes you have an acid stomach you have enough stomach acid. If they don't, how many you need to take before you feel an acid stomach will give you an idea of how low you are in stomach acid.
