Well, it seems that they allow natuorpaths to practice in New York State, yet they are not licensed. In most states a licensed naturopath can prescribe drugs and order a wide variety of tests so thats where the limitation is.

Acupucnturist are licensed in NY but their scope of practice will be limited to the acupuncture and likely herbs.

I am hoping to locate a medical doctor that does alternative medicine... They are hard to find from a distance.

Sorry I haven't replied back in a couple of days. So on July 22 I got my night guard from the dentist. The dentist had a oral surgeon come in and look at my MRI X-rays and he said it was definitely the muscle of the TMJ, but not TMD (thank god). So does this mean I have a muscle spasm? The muscle feels fatigued and achey and sore.

I have been wearing the night guard for about 2 days now and there have been some teeth marks on it which probably means I grind.

My parent's insurance is suspended as of right now, until August 1st. We are getting United Health Care. Can you look for physical therapists under united health care in nyc? thank you

When you get on to united health care they should give you a book with physical therapists listed. If not just call them. They use to be my insurance company. Sounds like your problem will be simpler that anticipated. Thats good news.

Reprograming your mind so you dont clamp down will be the biggest help. You might want to try magnesium supplements. Mostly your deal is a behavior issue. I wrote to that doc I mentioned in an earlier post. He said it will most likely be a behavior issue. I was waiting to find out more about your tests , etc before I told you. I think he is right. You could try hypnotherapy to reprogram. Find a certified hypnotherapist.

Will the insurance book for United Health Care provide hypnotherapists?

hey I don't exactly have TMJ, but I have Myofacial Pain Dysfunction in both the left and right TMJ joints. omg this is getting annoying but I just want this gone! I understand myofacial pain dysfunction (MPD) is related to muscles and such but I never did anything to cause this. It hurts a lot and my dentist has a oral surgeon that's talking about arthroscopic surgery! I don't know but I'm very young to be having this kind of disorder.

Regardless of the cause for your TMJ, I still think that hypnotherapy may help. You can reprogram how your muscles work and react. Hypnotherapy can be helpful for a number of pain disorders... even if it does not seem to be "all in your head"
I have some TMJ too and self massage works well enough for me.
I would consult a well trained massage therapist and a hypnoatherapist before I did any surgery.

I really need your help. I am thinking about being emitted into the hospital because the pain is so bad. I took Icy Hot, put hot packs, did stretching exercises with my physical therapist, wore my night guard, but the pain is still unbearable...what can the hospital do and what tests can they do to show whats wrong? should my mom call her insurance company and ask for a hypnoatherapist?

I wonder if some nerve is being compressed? I don't know what the hospital could do but it seems that some sort of study to determine if there is a nerve compression issue might be of value. You would need a skilled neurologist who has a lot of knowledge in facial nerves. A hypnoatherapist may help you to contend with some of the pain. I don't know if it would remove it all. Its hard to say. Acupuncture may also be another option.

I'm nervous so bear with me lol. I was thinking it was nerves pressing onto my TMJ muscles. Seriously the hospital I went to today (Pespertyerian) gave me a CT scan and found nothing. Everything looks fine. I wanna go on a eletromyogram and test my nerves on my face. Are compressed nerves curable without any dangerous surgery? All the tests seem normal and there is no disc location or whatever, but what is the name of the nerve that runs through your TMJ muscles?
