Default Earth Flight

They've done it again! The latest natural history documentary from the BBC. It's called 'Earth Flight'. It starts here in the UK tonight.
It is truly astonishing film of birds on the wing...

Here's a trailer

It's difficult and tedious to get such beautiful cinematography. In many cases, they put cameras on the backs of these birds. I once saw a short film of the flight of a peregrine falcon. The bird took us on a dive while carrying a camera, proving that it is the fastest animal on earth.

I hope BBC America will carry this.

Cookie: I know you do and I was thinking of you when I posted it!

Jim: Yes, a lot of it was done with micro cameras attached to the birds. For the rest of it they had to be a bit more inventive.
This is how they got the shots of the geese flying over south London.

I was thinking of bird mounted cameras, because ultralight aircraft and helicopters are so noisy. I would think it would scare the birds into unnatural flight. That video was great, because those birds were already use to that ultralight.
