Gorgious galaxy
This is what our Milky Way galaxy is supposed to look like. https://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap120107.html
Our star, the Sun, would be on an outer arm of the spiral. I think the second from the most outer one. Scary, huh? Do you wonder how scientist can determine the distance of these galaxies to us? Of course, it now take a lot of computing power to really be sure, but an example is in a Hubble space telescope capture. If an initial exposure can not see light in an area of space, the lens can remain open until the first sign of light is seen.
